Younger writers. Please, just know that you could not skip to different songs on a cassette tape, that’s CDs. With tapes you pressed fast forward or rewind and prayed.
Also, VHS tapes did not have menu screens. Your only options were play, fast forward, rewind, pause, stop, or eject.
Y’all are making me feel like the crypt keeper here, I’m begging you 😭

I usually fucking loathe anyone who references 1984 on social media but I do feel like actually Microsoft deciding to underline every use of an intensifier as an error is some Newspeak bullshit. no you can't replace "very nervous" with "nervous" to make a sentence "more concise" actually, because the word "very" has an actual fuckdamn meaning that I am deliberately conveying, you soulless corporate horseshit shovelling cartoon paperclip ass motherfucker

Oh I relate strongly, but as someone who also read explicit fanfiction during middle school (skipping over the sex) I also understand why a teen would get huffy if they were lectured about not touching anything adult, personally because I knew how to manage it AND I had to learn how to safely interact with the entertainment I wanted myself, like atleast have helped me in that department you know.
Also I kind of assumed that at least some of these "adults" were you know, children? Because logically no child is going to argue about this stating they're a child, and they already have to lie about their age of they are on the internet to read 18+ content. So eh. I just like to assume everyone has good intentions until proven otherwise.
"people who don't want children to read books with sex in them will be very surprised when their teenagers discover it's a thing anyway" — child, I think most people are in fact aware teenagers know about sex, they just want them to learn about it in somewhat more optimal conditions than a trashy romance.

Look, yes, "Middle schoolers shouldn't read smut." and "Parents should give their kids comprehensive sexuality education." Are truths that can coexist, but.
1) These sentences don't exist in a vacuum, and parents should give more importance to latter because the former is something that exists inside the latter.
2) You said "they just want them to learn about it in somewhat optimal conditions" and I was just saying that, ya and the optimal condition is at home and the responsibility of making that optimal condition lies on the adult.
I'm not writing a long post to be rude, just that parents often neglect a lot of angles when talking about things, and everyone benifits when you let them know how they can better help their kids. If a parent, or a gaurdian, like you are to your younger sibling, is uncomfortable about the notion of the teen in question interacting with 18+ content, there are things you can do to effectively ensure that the child is not uncomfortable and knows how to deal with it when they come across it.
Because when we restrict them flat out, we are centering our comfort over theirs. Put yourself in their shoes, when you were starting puberty, when your world and body are changing and it's uncomfortable, and it's hell; in your life till now this is the most stressful experience you've had, and you're so so moody and impulsive due to that, surely you still remember that time? What would you have listened to? What would have helped you? What guidence would have put you at ease?
I just responded like that because I personally didn't feel like you were were referring to the young ones with patience and benevolence, but instead with judgement, and I am personally irked by that; they are children, they need guidence, and we should provide that instead of debating them. I'm terribly sorry if I misinterpreted you, and I will apologize and correct myself if that's the case.

People seem to forget that TERF is not just a substitution for the word transphobe. Trans exclusionary radical feminism is a very specific and dangerous form of pseudo-progressive transphobia. Like no, that alt-right guy is not a TERF.

"noooo but this trans woman is actually dangerous and has hurt people" please explain to me how spotlighting her and setting her up for mass harassment is in any way helping anyone in this situation. Like, does this 6 hour long cringe compilation help the victims? because i think you just want an acceptable target for bullying

Then parents should introduce those topics to their kids themselves first, like, controlling books upward thirteen-fourteen with that excuses is just parenting procrastination.
