💯 agree with @jonny-versace 's post.
He sees it as vindication too.
Aaron has had one simple point throughout ... that Robert and Aaron should be out, proud and together.
Aaron doesn't make a big deal about it, but that's his oxygen. He goes absolutely apeshit when his relationship with Robert is threatened.
Even now, Aaron is acting all cool and distant because he knows Robert is in the village FOR HIM and only him.... that he hasn't given up on them, in fact he is fighting for them.
Robert pleaded guilty to protect Victoria, he surrendered to keep Aaron with his family and then Robert cut him off to let Aaron live his life.
To anyone else these would be great acts of sacrifice should make Aaron go weak in the knees. But not our Aaron! He doesn't understand how Robert is capable of making such sacrifices!!!! Aaron doesn't let go. His love is fierce and possessive. When he loves someone or something, he won't let go and won't even be able to pry it from his dead hands. So, the only "logical" conclusion Aaron has come up with, is that Robert mustn't care as much because he is able to give it up. Plus, "people don't stay with me".
Aaron felt like he couldn't breathe. And the thing is, he knew Robert would be miserable too. But the fact that Robert was capable of doing that made Aaron doubt...what if Robert didn't care...
It's not selfish. To Aaron who has been abandoned by most of his loved ones, if you love someone, you don't leave them. You fight for them but always with them!
Robert on the other hand is very different. For the man still fighting his Dad's ghosts, if you love them, you let them go- because their life will be better without him. In some ways, his love language is service to the point of sacrifice.
