i wish i could remember who made the recommendation to "make a list of all the different ways someone could feel about a topic in your fictional setting and then make each of them a character" because it is a great technique and is also extremely fun

Eternal Reefs
A way for someone to recycle their body and help marine life. Eternal Reefs transform human remains into artificial coral reefs for marine life. They help restore the fragile ecosystems off our coasts, providing an environment that supports coral and micro-organisms.
The idea was that of two students at the University of Georgia in the 80s. The idea to help came to them when they were diving off of the Florida Keys on break and saw all the deterioration and degradation of the reefs and decided to do something about it.
You can be useful to the environment even after death.

imo a discord server should be like a breakout room for fandom. like the place to run your wips by your besties or discuss your otp in more detail with a few people who were insane about it on your post or organise events with a handful of trusted mutuals etc etc. if it’s where ALL the fandom activity is going to happen it will inevitably foster a cliquey environment where the fandom is divided into “those in the server” and “those who aren’t”, lurking is disincentivised if not made outright impossible, people who feel uncomfortable joining in conversations and would rather interact with fandom through reblogging etc are largely excluded because there’s no repost mechanism, and the fandom itself becomes an enclosed space so new fans are limited in how much content and meta they can access without having to make the plunge into Joining The In Group, there’s limited scope for interaction between different communities within the same fandom, god it’s just an altogether dogshit stupid idea. what if we moved all fandom activity to really massive private groupchats. STUPID

you have a 1000% accurate read on topoda I love it. he's turning the theatrics up to 11
i hope its okay to ask if you have hcs on inkerton (i love him so much and he singlehandedly brought back my bloodborne brainrot)
ngl, Inkerton doesn’t take up all that much mental space in my brain because most of that has been going towards the fic in recent months, but for you anon I will gladly make an attempt.
Inkerton having been isolated from an a fairly young age because that’s just what being raised by Roland is probably like, doesn’t really know how to socially interact at all. He’s made attempts over the years, first with some of the workers in Flotsam Vale, being rejected because at that point Roland had already been raising him to be the thing that they were scared enough of to stay in line for. Then the crabs of New Carcinia, but his reputation preceded him by that point and they looked at him with the same fear. After that he decided it best to just stay away from other people.
He really misses going to the museum. He’s still a bit of a history person and collects historical stuff when he can get away with it. He’s been wanting to talk to Konche again for forever but fully expects to get the same fearful reaction from him as everyone else.
He’s only vaguely aware of Voltai. He knows that Roland powers Scuttleport with an eel but doesn’t know he implanted her with power outlets and that she doesn’t even produce electricity naturally. He’s seen her from a distance once but doesn’t know how to feel about her besides some vague sense of pity.
Despite Inkerton being implied to be Gunked since your first fight with him from the font of his dialogue, he never really went completely nuts from it because violence and thinking everything was hopeless is sort of just his default and has probably been for years now. There was no sudden pivot of mindset for him to spiral down like with all the other bosses we see who can still talk after being Gunked. He probably still would have lost his mind at some point but him living with that mindset constantly gave him some resistance because nothing much changed.
He’d thought about killing Roland often and had been wanting to see him dead for a long ass time before he shot him. But at the same time he had no clue how the hell to live a life outside of Roland, and didn’t know how to go on the run. Once they got to the Unfathom he figured there was no escape from there, so why not? It’s not like he’d live long enough to see any real consequences from it.
Him attacking Kril is because while he was probably beginning to succumb further to the Gunk, he also just wanted someone to die with that wasn’t Roland. In his dialogue while very obviously annoyed with Kril, he does seem to have some vague sense of respect for him as well. But mostly it was because Kril was conveniently right there.
These all turned out sort of sad, but Inkerton does also have a pretty depressing story when you think about it. Roland is just the worst father figure anyone could have asked for unfortunately.

my dream as a fanfic writer is to write a story which people want to talk to me about and send asks about afterwards and discuss things the characters did and the symbolism and meanings behind certain lines and I'll be all "hehe thanks" but irl I'll be in literal tears because I wrote something that means something to someone

i think there is truly something to be said about the amount of games out there that are, essentially, about grief and moving on at their core. and i do mean *video games,* specifically, because video games are immersive and interactive on a level other forms of entertainment art and media simply are not.
and i think part of it is...it really feels like working through your own grief when you're playing these games. they're games about letting go. about how you cannot stay in the past, in the memories that comforted you. about how you...cannot stay a ghost, or love a ghost forever. you have to let the ghost go. you have to lay it to rest.
whether you agree with this within the world of the fiction, or you find comfort in fanfiction where Everyone Lives!, i...think that's part of the point?
games are about immersing yourself in fantasy. and isn't it the ultimate fantasy of all, as someone who intimately knows grief, to think of the you that doesn't exist, who can find it within themselves to part with pain and grief? wouldn't it be nice, to take that step and move on?

You know, it’s important to have tragic blorbos sometimes because hey, maybe you had a bad day, maybe your job sucks so fucking much. But do you know who had a worse day? Blorbo bleebus, who’s doomed by the narrative

Chapters: 2/? Fandom: Another Crab's Treasure (Video Game) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Characters: Firth (Another Crab's Treasure), Kril (Another Crab's Treasure), Original Characters Additional Tags: May add more characters as I go along like when Chitan shows up, And the Firth/Kril ship tag because i am planning on putting them together down the line, I do make use of quite a few orginal characters but they're mostly set dressing, besides one that I did actaully put effort into because he's shows up to get the plot rolling, Anyways I hope y'all enjoy seeing Firth get put into the character development blender, Don't worry becoming subject to some of the worst horrors of crabitalism will totally fix him, I promise Summary:
Firth learns that sometimes the consequences of your actions is simply becoming one of the people you always thought you were so far above.
