Inktober Day 4: Scallops

Ok kenma is so very aro and so very gay. My favorite dynamics of his are bokuakakuroken and kenhina but he really gives platonic vibes even in those ships. i love the idea that hes aroace but still dating bokuto, kuroo and akaashi who also give various aspec vibes btw. i think i just really like characters in poly relationships where one part is platonic but means just as much because im self conscious about how much my friends care about me lol. but anyway. it’s obvious that kenma really likes hinata, we see it when they first meet and kenma just immediately gets a squish on him and then in the timeskip where he sponsors hinata like omg theyre so ahhh. i think he just really likes being around hinata and finds him fascinating. canon really encapsulates the beginning of a squish for me like kenma is just so intrigued and really finds hinata to be a really fun person to be around and opens up to him much more easily than anyone and i will die on platonic kenhina hill!!!

i talked a bit about kenkagehina in my aro hinata post but ill talk about it again. i think that kenma would be very competitive about hinatas attention at first and even later but after some time kageyama grows on him and they have a quiet understanding of each other. i dont think they would be dating in the polycule just mutually connected by hinata but i think their relationship matters a lot nonetheless.

kenma is the type of person to be really into relationship anarchy. like he probably wouldn’t understand why others put romantic relationships above everything else and he likes to let his relationships figure themselves out and never really picks a most important relationship.

also he and kuro have just such a good dynamic and they lowkey remind me of a childhood friend of mine who i used to have a squish on lol. they are just so good as best friends and i love how much they understand each other. they also give semi sibling vibes, obviously found family siblings so i think they would be much more cuddly with each other since theyre just used to it.

also i love thinking of all the dynamics in bokuakakuroken and one of my favorites is definitely bokuken. i think they compliment and understand each other much more than one would think and bokuto is probably a lot more reserved around kenma but in a relaxed way. kenma understands bokutos slumps and is there to confort him when he needs it and bokuto is an easy person for kenma to be around because he doesnt feel like he has to talk if he doesnt want to and now im just talking about how theyre both neurodivergent and- ahhhh

headcanon timeee

so i already talked about the obvious aro in the room, kageyama, but now it is time for my boy >:)c. hinata is the king of harem in the fandom which hurts me deeply (/j) but he also happens to be the king of platonic harem. Hinata is similar to kageyama in that i just dont think romance even comes to mind for him. He probably has had a couple squishes but never really a crush. my favorite dynamics he is apart of are with kageyama and kenma and i think they would make a great queerplatonic polycule. I also just love the idea of hinata dragging along two goofy little introverts with him everywhere he goes. i think kageyama and kenma would probably see eachother as rivals to be hinatas best friend before realizing that hinata likes both of them equally and then making peace. i think they would get along pretty well on their own too but this is about hinata rn so i wont get into that too much lol. I really think hinata just loves his friends so much and is just a lovequeer aro to the max. he is so passionate about the things he cares about, including his friendships (and excluding school (c" ತ,_ತ))

Ok now for some headcanons hehehe

I headcanon kageyama as very very aro but also autistic so i wanna clarify some things so no one gets mad at me lol. I’m aroace and probably neurodivergent so this is all just for fun and because i relate to him. and i know both communities are characterized as heartless but im reclaiming that so screw it >:3!! (and no i dont hc him as aro just because he is autistic coded)

ok now we can talk about him being aro hehehe. so we all know kageyama has absolutely no time for romance and even if he did he would be doing literally anything else (probably volleyball). Tbh i straight up just cant see him experiencing attraction, even to hinata (tho i think the ship is still cute). He and hinata might have an unbreakable bond and an iconic rivalry but i will still die on the hill that they coukd never like each other romantically. Deep down they trust each other more than (basically) anyone else and really make such a good pair platonically. Them in a qpr is my everything btw lol. Also i think kags is on the aplatonic and asexual spectrum too mostly because i think he has trouble maintaining friendships and struggles to get the energy to keep friendships (me fr) outside of hinata who does most of the talking and if he is talking its about their shared special interest (volleyball) so that makes conversations easier for kageyama

in light of this new official art i’m thinking about how many of kageyama and hinata’s important conversations take place on stairs and how stairs are symbols for growth and hard work — but also how hinata’s always shown to be the one standing a few steps above kags…

kags and hinata are not sun and moon kags and hinata are not sun and moon kags and hinata are not opposites or opposing forces kags and hinata are not separated in time and space never permitted to exist in the sky together kags and hinata are not the synthesis of contrasts and they aren’t balance. kags and hinata are sun and shadow, wherever there is sun there is shadow and wherever there is shadow there is necessarily sun, they aren’t opposites they are complements, they are inseparable, they are two manifestations of the same energy, visually distinct but intrinsically one and the same.

Hinata who had friends but not teammates. Kageyama who had teammates but not friends. Hinata had the sense of teamwork needed to succeed but not the skill. Kageyama had the skill but not the teamwork. How their first freak quick was a perfect blend of Hinata's unwavering trust and Kageyama's overwhelming skill.

How that was reversed in their fight in season 2 when Hinata's greed to improve his own skill drove him to get in the way of his teammates; and Kageyama's insistance on not messing with the team's equilibrium led him to deny the possiblity of improving their attack. How their new quick attack born out of that still had Hinata's trust at the center but also allowed him to contribute his own skill. And it still relied on Kageyama's genius talent with the new toss but it also incorporated his growth in letting go of some of his control to depend on others.

How they found not only a friend and teammate in eachother but a partner. And how that partnership provides them with both someone who will drive them to always improve, and with someone they can always rely on. Because Hinata needed someone who would recognize his abilities even with the obvious handicap of his height. And Kageyama needed someone who would never turn their back on him even with his abrasive and controling nature.

And so on the steps up to the clubroom before their first tournament together Hinata promised he would still be there in ten, twenty years. And Kageyama promised that he would take them to the top of the world.
