“ most of the time that stuff just goes in one ear, and out the other. ” a plain statement from the prince of the phantom theives, as she pops one of the tiny treats she had made into her mouth without a care. “ i’ve heard worse, so it doesn’t phase me anymore. or at least- i try not to let it bother me. i mean, it’s not always foolproof ! ”a sigh.  “ but at this point- it’s just the same recycled nonsense over and over ;  so i’ll only get upset when they say something new. ”

“ well um. we moved. or- well i moved, my mom stayed in tokyo. ” shiho sips her canned coffee- the fact that shujin and yasogami would double book their school trips at gekkoban high left a bitter smile on her lips.

“ my mom didn’t sell the house she bought, and my cousin checks in on me pretty often- and it’s nice and quiet in inaba, so i suppose i don’t really mind not seeing everyone. anyways. ” shiho smiles again. “ i got distracted chattering away- but how have you been ? ”

“ thank you, mr. tunko. ” the idea of having to fill out more paperwork was a nightmare already. something she could sign and move on with her life? that would be so much easier.

mr. tunko didn’t ask for much, didn’t seem to have any overwhelming demands. at least, not yet. hopefully never. he seemed a lot more . . . sensible than other teachers, more level headed- at least in the few minutes shiho’s had to analyze him. ( but she also had been star struck by the former volleyball team coach. she wouldn’t call herself the greatest at judging people. )

her smile brightens, and a hint of a light glimmers in her eyes. “ i think my mom might have a pair of bicycling gloves stashed away somewhere in our storage unit. ”  at least, if they didn’t shiho would just go get one. “ thanks. i’m . . . excited to join. ” she’d probably make something the night before- it’d be a good first impression. “ is it okay if i make like . . . muffins, or something else to bring to the meeting ? i don’t want to overstep boundaries. ”

“ thank you. i- i appreciate it. ” a rush of air escapes her in relief- her mind already penciling in the mental calendar- preparing to balance every chaotic twist and turn that her other extracurricular activity took up. ( she had gone into this conversation, half expected to be turned down, but had mr. tunoku said yes … and a club meant an alibi.  )

it’s unfair to put him on the spot like this, shiho thinks. they’ve all been dealt shitty hands, and the dealer is counting cards. ( and when someone rigs it from the start, and then says try your best, doesn’t it make you mad ? ) for the ‘ prince of shujin ’ , no good options exist for her future.

“ actually- i’d prefer a smaller club this time ‘round. ” a faint hint of her country bumpkin accent lilts from her tongue without notice notice, and a twist of a smile on her lips- tired and slightly bitter, yes, but genuine- contrasted against the dark circles under her eyes. “ i’ve never really been much of a people person, i do a lot better in smaller groups. ”

there’s probably paperwork, isn’t there ?  but her mom normally had all that ready to go at the beginning of the year. “ do ya have any forms i gotta fill out ? i have the time to spare. ”

   “Nothing so terrible I can’t fill them out myself.” Charlie couldn’t imagine that anybody in the staff even read the submitted forms either way, but acting like a good little cog in the machine lowered their profile. As such, a bit of order-of-operations rule-bending wouldn’t hurt too badly. “I’ll bring them filled out with me for your first meeting; you’ll just have to sign then.” Was there anything else…?

   “If you have any comfortable work gloves, bring them with you. That is to say, for gardening, biking, stuff like that. Otherwise, I’m sure I’ve got extras you could use.” Years of usage had prematurely rendered Charlie’s palms nearly a match for leather, so it’d been a bit of an unpleasant surprise on the second day of practice when the new students of the sword returned with angry blisters. “I’m pleased to have you.”

thinking abt shiho’s persona. i kinda, want to change it, and make her inital persona julie d'aubigny -> kassandra -> eve but i cannot decide lol

its always interesting to see what other people think of shiho as a base character- and it’s really interesting 2 see how my own take of : shiho is a very talented and skilled person, who’s spent her whole life chasing the approval of a non existent father and her peers, and how she used to be a real force of personality- considering her friendship with ann and ryuji, and then shujin happened and it ground her up and broke her spirit, but under everything she’s still headstrong, aiming for bigger heights shiho.

third semester shiho is so deeply unhinged, because shes been replaced by a cardboard cutout of herself that’s only come into being because of the wishes of her best friend, stopped taking her meds, spent the last year having her arm twisted by the school into keeping silence, and basically is one of few who are aware, watching the dream world rot around her.
