i don't think most people realize how bad things in rafah have truly gotten. we all already know israel has desecrated its own vow that rafah would be the "safe zone" in every way imaginable, but i can't describe how gut-wrenching it is to read about 12 iof soldiers infiltrating the rafah crossing under the guise of an aid truck just a day or so ago. again--they entered rafah with the pretense that they would be supplying starved, displaced people food
this is just now breaking, but i can't fathom how many palestinians got lured out w the promise of feeding their families--only to massacred then and there, never to be heard from again. likely their bodies won't ever be returned to the families. how can anyone read this and not be absolutely horrified

I was reading this report earlier this morning, which I referenced in my last post, put together by the Palestinian Farmers Union, and I have to say I wasn't supposed to be shocked yet I was still quite shocked by just the sheer magnitude of attacks and destruction caused by Israeli settlers in the month of August 2024 alone. Let me summarise:
The Israeli army and Israeli settlers had launched over 1,200 attacks on West Bank villages, killing 2 farmers
Israeli settlers had uprooted 477 trees, including 397 olive trees
Israeli forces carried out 68 demolitions, including 36 inhabited homes and 13 agricultural facilities and delivered 74 demolition notices to homes and structures
Israel confiscated 367 dunams of Palestinian land through military orders
Israeli settlers established 8 new settlement outposts
All in just 31 days.
When we say the Nakba didn't start and end in 1948, this is what we mean. Israel's policies of displacement and land theft are very much unchanged to this day.

I've recently gone to Amman, Jordan to visit family this summer and the heat over there is absolutely unbearable. I've been across Jordan for multiple years of my life, and the heat this year is nothing like I've experienced. Even residents who live there all the time remark about the unusual heat and can't make plans during the day. They have to wait til the evening to go out for any chores or activities they need to do.
And this is in Amman, which is a city built on mountains. In the desert, which I've also been to recently, you HAVE to stay inside because the sun is just so powerful.
The only thing I could think of while in this heat, was that those in Gaza must be suffering so so much. At least in Amman, there are houses and some air condition... in Gaza, there's almost nothing to protect them from the angry sun except for makeshift tents. And even then, the tent does not have air condition so a lot of the time is stuffy and overheated in the tent itself! Not to mention the lack of water to hydrate with!
I really want to emphasize that even just existing in a tent is a life or death scenario for Gazans who barely have any water and no air conditioning at all. It's difficult to exaggerate just how extreme this heat is and for people who have had everything taken away from them, this is yet another burden they have to deal with while being abandoned by the entire world.

UPDATE: More Vegetables!
Today, Hussam and his team in Rafah were busy sorting and packaging vegetables. They managed to put 200 packages, each with 10kilo of vegetables (potatoes, eggplants, lemon, jalapeños, tomatoes, and cucumber) and 3 packs of feta cheese for each family.
A few days ago, Hussam also bought diapers, soaps, and buckets to distribute to families with babies. All your donations go directly to Hussam. He still is able to withdraw cash from limited money sources but with high fees due to shortage of cash throughout Gaza. He now pays 15% in fees, which might increase in time. Please keep up the good work in spreading the word and donating.
Thank you so much for all your help these past few months!

"To Feel the Humiliation", Sharif S. Elmusa
"Today I have seen of war all I want to see. A row of men with blindfolded eyes and surrendered hands squat, backs hunched, before a stone wall. A young boy stays home for five days, alone, with the corpses of his family. A man gestures, with loathing, about how a soldier had defecated on his bed. An old woman flails her arms in despair, begging the distant heavens. To feel the humiliation, to touch the grief of each I would have to become a monster with many hearts."

Another soldier, who served in northern and central Gaza, testified that soldiers “took rugs, blankets, [and] kitchen utensils,” and explained that there was no briefing on the matter from the army either before entering or while in the field. “There was zero talk about it from the commanders,” he said. “Everyone knows that people are taking things. It’s considered funny — people say: ‘Send me to The Hague.’ It doesn’t happen in secret. The commanders saw, everyone knows, and no one seems to care.”
The soldier offered his explanation for why the phenomenon is so widespread: “There is something about this reality in which the house is already [in ruins] that allows you to take a plate or rug. In one of the operations, in a destroyed house, there was a cupboard with antique kitchen utensils, special plates, special mugs. I saw them being looted, unfortunately.”
“[The commanders] didn’t really talk to us about it,” another soldier testified. “They didn’t say you couldn’t take things. And most people felt the need to take a souvenir.”
The soldier noted that the looting was no secret; indeed, some of their seniors were doing it too. “The company sergeant major distributed Qur’an study books that he found and gave to whomever wanted them,” he said. “Another soldier took a set of coffee mugs, a serving tray, and a pot. Another unit, whom we met after they returned from a tour, brought a motorcycle, like the Nukhba [Hamas special forces] motorcycles. One of the soldiers declared that it was his. They [the soldiers] talked about renovating it.”
Another soldier who served in Gaza told +972 and Local Call that soldiers took “prayer beads, spoons, glasses, coffee pots, jewelry, rings. Whatever is easy and accessible is taken. Not everything, but people felt like the lords of the land.” He noted also that “maps from children’s textbooks were taken to show how they are taught there.”

I don't think people truly understand the gravity of Rafah being bombed.
There is nowhere left to go.
The lowest cost is $5,000 USD to flee to Egypt. There has been people paying over $10,000 USD.
That is the only option
Pay or die.
Rafah was the only place in Palestine promised not to be bombed. That promise is broken.
1.5 million people have nowhere to go!
Reminder, if possible, please donate to the PCRF, ANERA, Islamic Relief, Palestine Red Crescent Society, Medical Aid for Palestinians, Defense for Children International - Palestine, Doctors Without Borders, and all other trusted organizations.

Israel had shut off water and electricity from Gaza 110 days ago. One hundred and ten days ago. Most of us would literally not survive this long without clean water and electricity. Look around you right now and tell me how many things in your vicinity depend on electricity. Are you able to imagine a life without uninterrupted access to water? I still remember the old lady who was interviewed in a tent who said "the question you should be asking me is how long ago was the last time I showered".
To know that millions of people have their literal life spans, their movement, their access to water, when they can eat, what and how much they can eat, when and how often they can shower, how and where they sleep - to have it all be controlled and dictated for them while also, simultaneously, the mere idea of providing them with aid is "out of everyone's hands"?
There are fucking miles of aid trucks, filled with essentials, that are stopped right outside of Gaza at the Rafah border, while people inside of Gaza are freezing and starving and dreaming of clean water to drink. How does this not infuriate you?
Fuck Israel and every nation that enables and emboldens it.

Some of the Olive trees that currently still grow and bear fruit in occupied Palestine are thousands of years old.
This olive tree is nearly 5000 years old and has witnessed more war and bloodshed than any of us. In the Garden of Gethsemane, on the Mount of Olives, at the edge of Jerusalem, trees still grow that were there when Jesus wept.
