Re-edited this snap from a previous New York trip to fit the slightly brighter and more versatile (yet hopefully still unique) style that I've attempted to work into my photos since the beginning of the new year. What do you guys think about these recent tones? (at Manhattan, New York)

One cool thing about Winter is that, sometimes, you can literally walk on water. Yeah, somewhere underneath all that snow and ice, there is a lake. ❄️ (at Sweden)

Manhattan from above. 🦅 Sorry about the repost; I like the cropped version better as it shows a lot more detail. Aside from the light/shadow game going on here, detail is what this photo is all about to me. (at New York, New York)

Views from the 100th floor. Care to guess what part of New York you're looking at? 🗽 (at New York, New York)

Wish Instagram would let me post this image without cropping it; I'm still slightly amazed at how tall those trees were. 🌲 (at Uppsala, Sweden)

☀️ One of my favourite things to look for when photographing cityscapes is the number of ways in which natural light affects our surroundings. Contrasts that occur naturally – for example, the way the sun hits a certain building or street during a given time of the day, creating patterns of shadow and light – aren't just easy on the eyes; they're bound to contribute to a more interesting picture. It's also a simple reminder that beauty is everywhere. (at New York, New York)

Greenwich Village is definitely one of Manhattan's cosiest neighbourhoods. It's also the home of a number of great food spots, one of them being @thedoughnutproject. If you're around, do stop by. Their PB&J is to die for. (at Manhattan, New York)

Back in 2014 I was in dire need of a change of scenery, so I made the decision to relocate overseas the following year. Out of the three options at hand — Canada, Australia and New Zealand — I ended up choosing Canada, and that is something I will never regret. Picking up on the hashtag WhyImGratefulForThisYear, initiated by my lovely friend @jemicrenshaw21, here's me sharing a few words about what the past year has meant to me. 2016 turned out to be an adventure in so many ways. There were highs and there were lows, just like every other year, but looking back, it was a year that made a life-long impact on my life. As a positive contrast to the uncertainty and lack of direction I was feeling, I made memories that are bound to last a lifetime, travelled to some incredible places and formed meaningful friendships and bonds that I'm taking with me into the new year and, hopefully, for years to come. We all know life isn't always great, so when it is, do remember to truly cherish it. There will be a day when you need a light in the darkness, and that light will be at its brightest when you have something to be grateful for. Thank you to every kind soul who stood by me throughout this past year, home as well as away; you are golden and much loved. Wherever I end up setting foot in the future, I'll always think of Toronto as my second home. (at Here, There & Everywhere.)

As an old European town, Uppsala doesn't offer much in terms of grandiose rooftop views and futuristic high-rises, but it sure has its charm. The tallest building is actually a century old cathedral — and for a few weeks this winter, it lit up like a Disney Castle. 🏰❣🎆 ------------------------------------------------ Construction began on the cathedral as early as 1272; however, due to monetary obstacles, the plague and the cold climate, it took approximately 150 years for the basic structure to be completed. The towers were added in the late 15th century. With its 118.7m (389 ft) in height, it is the tallest church in Scandinavia and the Nordic countries. Serving as an important element in Swedish history, the cathedral was the coronation site for many of Sweden's kings and queens until 1719. The church holds the tombs of some prominent public figures, one of them being Gustav Vasa (Gustav I, elected king in 1523), who lead the rebel movement ensuing the Stockholm Bloodbath; and another being the famous 18th century botanist Carl Linnaeus, commonly known as "the father of modern taxonomy". The memorials of Nobel Peace Prize recipients Nathan Söderblom and Dag Hammarskjöld (the second Secretary-General of the United Nations) can also be found inside the church. When friends come to visit, the cathedral is one of my favourite places to take them, much because of its rich history. Europe is cool that way. Have you guys ever been? If not, what city/cities would you like to travel to?! 🌍 (at Uppsala, Sweden)

It was almost midnight when I looked out the window and noticed a thick layer of fog covering the quiet neighbourhood streets that night. Enticed by the dramatic and mysterious setting that unveiled itself before my eyes, I immediately grabbed my camera + tripod and went outside. Two years on, this image remains one of my personal favourites — not because it illustrates brilliant camera skills, but because it reminds me of why photography, as an artform and a tool for storytelling, remains so dear to me. Whether used as an extension of the imagination or to freeze a real moment in time, its power is undeniable; images simply speak a language of their own. I brought this oldie back to life much thanks to the talented @visualave, who inspired and challenged me to re-visit the original photo with a fresh set of eyes. After attempting a few different re-edits, I however found myself desiring to go back to the edit I had posted two years ago. Because even though there's always room for improvement as you learn and grow, it is sometimes rewarding enough to let yourself look back on past work and enjoy it for what it is.
