Hello everybody with summer fast approaching here is your regular reminder that:
Everyone needs to wear sunscreen
SPF 50 is pretty much the best protection you can get, an SPF higher than that will have the same effect
Melanin does not protect you from skin cancer
Tanning is caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation
Spending the majority of your life receiving regular large doses of UV radiation without any skin protection is a good way to get skin cancer
Don't use tanning beds, and don't go sun tanning
Wear your fucking sunscreen

Today, I stayed home for the third day in a row. It's been 2.5 weeks since I've had a shift on the docks, and over a week since I've been to my second job. When both places are slow, it's hard to keep the faith and the sanity (even tho I've gone on way longer stretches of time without work. I mean, look at 2023 when I had only three shifts on the dock that *entire year*...).
But three years ago today, I showed up to the hall and plugged the board for the very first time. The first few steps into achieving a lifelong dream. I just... Didn't realize what they meant by slow seasons until I actually got there I guess....
#no i aint quitting. daddy didnt raise no quitter damnit. im just kinda sad ig#altho it should kinda be a celebration really. being able to still chase this dream 3yrs later? that really is a blessing#and on the 24th thatll mark my v first official meathead shift on the docks*#*technically my v first shift on the docks was safety training but thats just sitting around watching 90s industrial safety vids on vhs.#not actual work even tho we got paid. 💀#yapping into the void

The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.
