The art blog of @therootbeersprite. PFP by me: Iguana, acrylic on canvas, 2020. Here's where I reblog tutorials I find and images for kicking artist's block in the nads, as well as other people's art that I find cool. Other people's art will always be attributed. Maybe if I get ambitious, I'll post some of my own work. Maybe.

lot of people are extremely invested in there being a hard boundary between "artists" and everybody else. i've got good news though! there's no such thing as art.

do you have any chubby/fat male poses?
A few! The model you'd prob be looking for is Klaus. I try to use model tags as much as I can but here's a few samples of his poses.

There's also Prince Nova who's a transgender guy. Please note the binder used during this shoot is too small and we only used it because Nova was scheduled for top surgery shortly after the shoot so he didn't want to buy a new one just for this one event. Always check reliable resources for appropriate binding sizes and techniques because binding with something too small or incorrectly can cause injury.

“Border fragment of wool with a continuous band of #hummingbirds and fringelike appendages representing beans. Early Nasca [Nazca, Peru, c.1-450 CE]. Pollination of bean plants by birds may be suggested here. Border was formed using a needle-knit stemstitch.”

Helpful and Preventative Stretches for Writers, Artists, and Gamers 💪🎨✍🎮
If you type, write, draw, game, or generally use your hands a lot (especially if you’re prone to RSI or Carpal Tunnel!) try these stretches as both a preventative measure, and on the spot relief. Take care of yourself and your body, friends!
Tumblr media
Start with hands up, fingers stretched out.  Stretch your thumb as far as you can over your palm. Hold and repeat 4 times.
Tumblr media
Touch each finger to your thumb. Hold each for 30 seconds. Repeat on each hand 4 times.
Tumblr media
Start with a fist. Open half way, hold for 2 seconds. Stretch fingers out, hold for 2 seconds. Repeat 4 times.
Tumblr media
Start with one arm out, palm up. Pull your fingers back with your other hand. Hold for 10 seconds. Do the same with your other hand. Repeat 4 times
Tumblr media
Start with arms up, palms out. Bend wrists down until you feel the stretch, but keep your fingers loose. Hold 10 seconds. Bend wrist upwards, until you feel it in your wrist and arm. Hold 10 seconds. Repeat 4 times.

Say what you want about labubu and the horrible consumerist culture around it- I’m talking about the actual design of the dolls. I understood her so much more when I found out that she’s supposed to be just a little girl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As someone who used to be Just A Little Girl, I don’t think I’ve seen a more accurate representation of what being Just A Little Girl is like. Idk how to explain it. It just captures the feeling of being a chaotic little beast that mixes shampoo to make potions and drawing all over yourself with mamas makeup and making worm hotels so well.
I feel almost a kinship with this terrible little elf girl. I’m so sorry labubu. You deserve better than being the face of scalpers and TikTok consumerist culture. They don’t understand you like how you should be.

There's this thing going around twitter rn about someone writing EO fics on AO3 using AI (they're not saying who it is, but I have an idea of who because it's really obvious), and since you're one of my favourite authors, I'm interested to hear your thoughts about ppl increasingly using AI to write fics in general? Because I've seen many other fandoms experiencing this as well, and although they can try to get those kudos through ChatGPT, they remain defeated by your golden pen lol
AI is not writing. It is not a fanwork and it has no business in the archive and anyone who posts something they "wrote" with AI ought to be ashamed of themselves and booed mercilessly.
A writer writes because they must. Because they carry a story inside themselves and they have to get it out. The struggle is the point. The point is to put in the effort and use your own brain to overcome challenges and create something. The point is to look at it and say I can do better, and try again. The point is to grow and to think and to feel the satisfaction that comes from making something.
Having a computer produce a fic for you is not an act of creation. You didn't do any goddamn thing in that scenario. Pressed some buttons and took whatever garbage the machine spit out and called it yours. But it's not. It's the end result of a code someone else wrote stealing words from someone else's stories. It's beyond lazy; it is deeply, profoundly, toxically entitled.
The people who use AI to write fic are so fucking entitled. They think they deserve to call themselves writers, they deserve to read a fic that fits inside the tiny box of their own personal preferences but they don't wanna like. Work for it. AI "writers" do not want to work or think or do. They want to have. It is an acquisitive, materialistic impulse directly at odds with the entire ethos of fic.
Anybody can have an idea. Bringing that idea to life is writing and anyone who has outsourced that work to a computer isn't writing. They're just adding to the overwhelming enshittification of everything. Peddling slop for clout instead of like. Being a part of a community. Which is you know the entire goddamn point of fandom.
"oh but writing is hard" good. It's supposed to be. Every fucking thing worth having takes effort. If you can't or don't want to put in the effort to write, then you're not a writer. That's fine, I'm not a painter and I'm never gonna be because I don't want to put in the effort to become a talented painter. We aren't entitled to feeling like we're super talented at everything we do; if you wanna be good you gotta get good. Put in the fucking work or get the fuck out.

look. here’s the thing. If you have a relative or family friend or some such who does a craft/hobby/skill that you’ve “always wanted to learn” you should ask them about it. Your grandma does embroidery and you want to learn? Sit down one day, or call her, or write a letter, or something, and say “I am interested in learning this craft.” There’s basically zero chance that Uncle Francis is gonna refuse to teach you about his model ships. Grandma is THRILLED to show you her quilting. Ms Barbara from the church bake sale WILL teach you how to make the fudge that made her second husband propose.
your friends and contemporaries are also a tremendous resource, and you should ask them too! But there’s just no replacement for the expertise of someone who has been knitting for sixty years. Part of this, also, is that older crafters can often give you materials to help you start, and your broke millennial friends usually can’t. My mom has more wool than she will ever use in her life, and she knows it. When one of my friends wanted to start knitting, my mom just gave her this gorgeous silver handspun yarn she’d made but wasn’t attached to. Yarn like that is expensive! Handspun yarn from someone who has been spinning for thirty years doesn’t often happen to beginners! And starting with good materials is better than starting with bad, because it helps you develop taste and a sense of quality more quickly.
Experienced crafters are often able to help you avoid learning bad or damaging habits—as a teenager, my sewing teacher spent a lot of time teaching me how to do things so that I didn’t get repetitive stress injuries (like she did). They’re going to be able to lend you books, send you ancient angelfire html pages with the most exacting instructions on earth, show you the good places to get crafting supplies that aren’t am*zon.
But you have to ask. Do not wait until these people are dead, and then say “I wish I knew.” You have to do it now, while you can.
