MTG Alterations: Seeker of De Wae

Well, it took two weeks to finally reach my hands, but the alter is finally done.

This is by far the most abhorrent fucking thing I've ever laid my eyes upon.

10/10 would pay to have done again.

I've heard things about McNeill's work & racist opinions. I've even gone through some of his artwork to get my own opinion on the guy, all in all he's got some awfully racist pieces made. Seeing I'd rather not ask McNeill, "hey what are your racist thoughts and views", if you claim to have talked to him before, I would definetly love to read what he's said and who he appears to be as a person. A lot of info on him appears to be vague as WoTC obviously doesn't mention this period in their start.

Terribly sorry about the late response, didn't notice this until I logged in today!

I'll write up a short piece this week or the next when I can. While his artwork gives an incredibly strong impression of the kind of racist he is, I realized that trying to interact with him not only enforced that notion, but led me to discovering several other abhorrent facets of his personality. It's a shame that WoTC never went in length about that period of time when Harold was around, lots of artists from that era could tell you neat stories. Ken Myer Jr., Pete Venters, Jesper Myrfors, the list goes on. Would be interesting to read what they think of somebody like Harold creating art for Wizards.

TCGPlayer: An example of how to reach out to collectors.

Signed cards, Graded cards, even Misprints, looks like TCGplayer is finally reaching out to the niche collectors in a neato way.

 Bit too tired to start a proper post on this, but here's hoping this starts up conversation about online buying and the pros and cons when dealing with different sites.

Magic the Gathering Spike of the Week: Invoke Prejudice + Bonus Piece: Why I Hate Buyouts

Well, here's what will probably be known as the strongest price spike of the month.

The card in note however....is a bit of a strange pick, given it's lack of appearance in any notable format.

However, that confusion should be quickly dispelled, as once again *drumroll* ...we have another unhealthy buyout of reserve list cards!!

Woohoo... 

A few people have debated that IP should drop down to previous levels of $200, because this is a card that sees no play in any format other than EDH, since it's not a very competitive play. However, Invoke Prejudice is going through what I've decided to coin the "Drop of Honey" effect. It will spike from $150 to 4 figures, and eventually it settles down, but the new price will typically be 2-3 times higher than what it was before.

Take for example the card Bartel Runeaxe. Yet again, another random card from Legends, one far less known in fact. however, this too was subject to a random buyout, spiking from $4 to an utterly ridiculous value of $250, with sites frantically adjusting prices from $150 and even higher, before finally settling at $30. But as you can clearly see, it's been a few months now, and that price looks to be fairly stable now, with no chance for an impending crash. Even with a lack of demand, once a RL price goes up, it will never really go back to what it used to be.

Let me make it clear, buyouts are utterly abhorrent, I do not approve of people who artificially inflate the 93/94 market to make a quick profit at the expense of other players and collectors, and it's actions like this which make me wish the Reserve List was abolished.

Side note, for those who don't know, the card Invoke Prejudice as well as the artist has....something of a very controversial history to it.

I don't want to write about this card, or Harold Arthur McNeill, as I feel an individual like him doesn't deserve to receive attention in a blog post. However, I do feel it important to highlight a dark chapter in Wizards' history when they made the decision to bring on an incredibly racist individual as a freelance artist, and as somebody who's spoken to Harold briefly, I think it necessary to explain just how problematic he was, and still is.

Still, I leave that up to others to decide, so if anybody genuinely wants me to pen an article about this, feel free to let me know.

Altered Magic - Pre-Prelim Sketch 1: The Journey Begins

Hello, my name is Zubairul, I come from afar, and in the spirit of competitive diversity, Splinter Twin is banned in Modern.

I kid, I kid. But real talk, a couple weeks ago I immersed myself in the most shitposty meme of 2018 thus far, and I enjoyed running around in VRChat so much that I decided to go and seek out an artist willing to depict the glory and meme prowess that is Ugandan Knuckles. Several days passed, and after discussing possible ideas with various artists, I had begun to give up hope that any of them would truly understand this meme, and have the necessary shitposting vision to bring it to life.

Finally, I found it, and today, I was graced with the first extremely rough pre-preliminary sketch.

It is glorious.

I usually don't follow the step by step process to creating an alter, but for this....I will make an exception. Upon the final completion, I shall post it here, and we can all bask in the glory of The Way.

And for the record, this is what one of her finished pieces looks like. I'm excited to see how things turn out on this magical journey!

People ask “why so many females” because of historical context. In the case of the most recent asker, he was questioning it because 99% of pirates historically were male. This also applies to knights, soldiers, or pretty much anyone involved in combat. Thus a 50/50 split is unrealistic historically, and in militaries even today, and raises questions.

Magic is a fantasy game. We build our planes to be cool and evocative and inspirational. We want to make them worlds people are excited to explore and play with.

Ixalan has spellcasting Merfolk, conquistador Vampires and Warriors riding Dinosaurs. Historical accuracy was never our goal. : )
