And the worst is that we all know that most of the time, they weren't going to buy the game anyway ‍♀️🤦‍♀️
Remember Stellar Blade, that game people threw a fit about because sexy women bad?
Sony said they were gonna release it to the western market uncensored.
The game has come out and it's censored. 🤡
God forbid adults enjoy anything nowadays.
SONY YOU LIAR! Y0UR PANTS AND SUIT SHOULD BE ON FIRE! What the hell why is everything being marketed with children +adult in mind? is this the shitty consequences of terminally onlines saying they are "minor" at 22!?

I think we will never have it (and so much the better!) But imagine if they try to adapt 2HA or BAB given that the anti anti-hero censorship.
It would be such a mess but I am pretty sure that a lot of people would prefer this version smh.
"We told you XQC was a poor victim!"
TGCF donghua went the "sad little fangirl" road when TA donghua went "not only is he manipulative and evil but begone THOT with a clivage" and tbh as adaptations one is way nicer to follow, even if YWS is OOC. It feels like he got the "guy is such provocative that we don't know if he is gay or not" type of censorship. HC just looks like "a gay character whose only end possible is to love someone who is so above him that he will never have them so everything is fine" type of censorship. And the problem is that most of the fandom don't see that as censorship but as a valid interpretation of the canon character.
.............! YOU ARE RIGHT HOLY SHIT !
Its like I forgot they have done this before, with LA LWJ, where he is shown all sad, pining and yearny to give the loyal book fanbase the bone they know they want but of course HE WOULD BE THE ONLY ONE, WWX is concerned about everything and everyone beside him anyway , so it might not look like his special feelings is reciprocated by the martyr protagonist( he is just caring about EVERYONE!) . Except for a scene or two, which would only be understood in whole context by the book readers, no one will be able to tell if XL cares about HC that way at all, only HC is allowed to visibly show emotions which is not even part of his canon personality.
I even got into an argument with insta idiot too, who was like "why complain about the season 2, everyone liked season 2, and its better than not having anything , why complain about censorship" and I cannot believe someone is out there is saying with their whole chest that their need to consume more fanfiction of an adaptation is more important than an actual writer's creativity being censored for government's stupid sensibilities!
YWS got lucky. Even flamboyancy is somewhat an exaggeration of his canon personality( and toning down his goatheadedness and cruelty is there but at least something is there!) . The fandom responded appropriately by not acting like that YWS and the book one is in any way similar, they are just "different type". Its fun to enjoy those types without acting like an idiot who confuses them all.
It feels like that once you give Anglo fandom a vague image of a man in tears to express feelings or in any way sentimental they just RUN WITH IT and don't know how to write or draw with anything else. Its funny as long as a character is mean/cruel to the goody two shoes character, the fandom would fight tooth and nail to make sure that people remember that the "nice" parts in another adaptation is just that- a fiction. In fact if we look at IWTV , they won't even mind if another adaptation straight up invented new cruelty instead. However , characters having their personality and actions which is not cruelty to the sweet blorbo can be removed, blunted or erased and nobody would care to remind anyone that this isn't right.
It kinda tells on their lack of creativity as a collective and also their lazy need to simplify everything to the only thing they know, since understanding a character's established personality takes hard work.
The whole "sad little fangirl" take has to be so insulting though. Its right there with whole buff!XL hot take. It patently goes out of its way to misunderstand something which destabilizes the point of the story. Just like Xie Lian is subversion and deconstruction of what a "hero" is supposed to be, whether as set of morals and in narrative( XL isn'r buff, he is androgynous looking, he is associated with beauty femineity and flowers, he is not the strongest martial being, he is not even the smartest person in the whole room at many points, or he achieved his goals in a way he wanted, nor rewarded for things he wanted etc) , Hua Cheng is a deconstruction and subversion of what a DEVOTEE is supposed to be, especially in a story where themes of Godhood= dehumanization is so rampant!
Yes just act like Hua Cheng is basically a fanboy, an entity known to frequently dehumanize their idols🤡 It especially looks galling because for the way he treats Xie Lian, aka like a person, he himself has to face dehumanizing insults for it frequently by people who wronged XL and think they have more say over his choices than XL himself!
So many layers of irony, all of them missed!🤡 for what ? LOLz at HC is a fanboy memes? sigh...
Tumblr media
Edit: I think its basically the result of cultural difference. I think even an average European student can tell that "one sided love" trope is soft core censorship because we all know the Courtly Love trope where true love is condemned via it being shown via cheating, adultery , breaking or crossing of social norm and as such condemned , characters destined to be shamed or killed in narrative.

In their mind wang/xian not being together is censorship and not the 50 episodes of worth of one sided nonsense they saw which was written to prepare for such an end. Same way they do not see it now, with HC in donghua basically carrying the whole hualian expectation burden. Watch them act all surprised Pikachu when they adapt the last scene where he dissolves into butterfly and the last scene of hualian reuniting IS NEVER ANIMATED WITH IT🤡

A story like Thousand Autumns is very subtle in its romance.
Shen Qiao has only ever known his sect. He knows it very well, because of this fact. He knows the people, he knows the rules, he knows the daily doings and who is doing them. He knows every blade of grass and every stone. He’s like a lonely mountain flower, on the highest peak, unseen by any but a few birds and unknowing that there’s more it might never know.
When he finds himself away from his sect for the first time, he’s confused. At most, he’s gone to the base of the mountain, maybe the fields surrounding that, but no further. The flower was plucked and tossed aside.
For a man stumbling blindly in the world, literally and figuratively, there really isn’t a better guide than one that knows just about everything. And that’s, without a doubt, Yan Wushi.
Yan Wushi has lived longer than Shen Qiao, has been more places than Shen Qiao, and has fought more battles than Shen Qiao. Yan Wushi is the perfect example of something out of reach even for someone out of reach. He’s the only one who could answer any questions asked of him, but especially the questions that Shen Qiao would want to ask him.
And there’s no question in my mind that Yan Wushi doesn’t fall for Shen Qiao at first sight, but he’s certainly attracted to him. Not in an overtly sexual or emotional way, but Yan Wushi, the way his character is set up? It’s impossible for him not to be fascinated by Shen Qiao.
He knows Shen Qiao is the very picture of a peerless immortal. He’s well aware that Shen Qiao is considered untouchable by even the people closest to Shen Qiao. He’s most aware that Shen Qiao is Qi Fengge’s (coughhndisputedcough) favourite disciple, and honestly that’s enough for him to overwhemingly want to mess with Shen Qiao.
There are a lot of reasons for Yan Wushi to fall for Shen Qiao. Most of the people in the novel fall for Shen Qiao, after all, there is a precedent.
But the one I’ve seen questioned is Shen Qiao’s affection for Yan Wushi. Where does it come from? When did it start? Does Shen Qiao even fucking like that asshole?
The easy answer is: yes, he does. The novel tells us that. Shen Qiao, despite everything, does fall for Yan Wushi’s, um, “charms” in the end. This is made clear.
But why? A thousand voices cry out. Why the fuck would any reasonable person like Yan goddamn Wushi in any capacity?
Well, there’s your first mistake. Shen Qiao is not a reasonable person.
Shen Qiao as a character is absolutely terrifying. He could absolutely destroy the world given half the inclination, but he just doesn’t want to. He’s already considered unmatched before he’s pushed unceremoniously off of a mountain, and his journey only increases his strength. He isn’t quite equal to Yan Wushi, but he’s the only person Yan Wushi ever sees as equal to himself.
Shen Qiao’s best and worst trait is his patience. He’s unwavering. He really just embodies taoism, especially as it’s presented in the novels. He is the picture of a river that doesn’t stray from its path.
Which is why it’s hard for him to reconcile his own attraction to Yan Wushi, but let’s all be clear here. Yan Wushi absolutely starts seducing Shen Qiao on day fucking one. If he could’ve (if Qi Fengge hadn’t been there) he would’ve tried to eat that cabbage when it was just a little sprout. Shen Qiao is unpracticed in most social interactions, to be frank, but he’s especially unused to romance and Yan Wushi really is his first introduction to being hit on.
Yan Wushi is far from good, at really any point, to anybody but especially to Shen Qiao. But that doesn’t particularly matter because Shen Qiao chooses to forgive him, again and again. And I really think, after giving Shen Qiao to a confirmed terrible, awful person who has already promised to do terrible thing to Shen Qiao, that Shen Qiao himself wouldn’t forgive literally anyone else for doing that. And he shouldn’t, because it was really fucked up, but that still doesn’t matter because Shen Qiao ultimately DOES forgive Yan Wushi.
What am I saying? I’m saying that Shen Qiao fell for Yan Wushi first. It is the only way the story makes any sense. Shen Qiao is annoyed at him, he’s furious at him, he’s so fucking pissed he could kill that man, but he likes him. He likes Yan Wushi’s company. He likes that Yan Wushi gives him a challenge. He’s exasperated, but he likes it.
Shen Qiao forgives Yan Wushi SO MANY TIMES. Yan Wushi humiliates him and mocks him and is the absolute worst, but Shen Qiao forgives him and more than that, Shen Qiao always is waiting for Yan Wushi to come back to bother him more.
Is there more to Shen Qiao’s attraction? Probably. Is it a daddy kink? It could be. But I honestly can’t help but read it as Shen Qiao falling for the absolute pits of a man that is Yan Wushi. Shen Qiao likes that old bastard and decides to spend the rest of his life with the fucker and he is just too much of a block of ice to show it.

Also YWS, while OCC (the character is absolutely not that flamboyant in the book, he has way more a dry sense of humour and he is a lot more threatening because he is not that hoe in the book (I mean the donghua is very fun to watch just for him but he is very different)), has the chance to be his own character because of the type of censorship applied.
At some point LWJ (and HC to a lesser extend but still) doesn't feel like his own character because he is too fused to his "romance" because of the censorship.
Sometimes, you feel like these adaptations of HC/LJW are mostly there to pine after the MC because they are well worth it.
Donghua!YWS could be a character without any romance and he would still be there in the narrative with his full personality.
(Also Donghua!YWS's design adds a lot to the fact he is not trying to be Book!YWS while having a different personality. Here everything is coherent. Even if they made him a bit nicer in the scene where he is attacked and "died".)
TGCF donghua went the "sad little fangirl" road when TA donghua went "not only is he manipulative and evil but begone THOT with a clivage" and tbh as adaptations one is way nicer to follow, even if YWS is OOC. if you're cringing at the genre conventions of the genre you are writing in then why the hell are you writing in it. either have something substantial to say about those conventions or shut the hell up! i will not cringe alongside you at superhero powers and spaceship battles and big eldritch worms and bone magic. i came to this story to SEE that shit and I don't appreciate it when an author tries to pretend they're above the very things they're selling themselves on

We don’t bully Sauron enough for being such a FUCKING instagram villain that he’d only ever steal black horses from the Rohirrim, like he really in canon passed over herds of perfectly good load-bearing horses just for aesthetic fidelity
