something i've noticed that has become really annoying in the past 10 years or so is this fad of what i've been calling, for lack of a better word, "structural whataboutism." it's that thing where, when faced with a concrete, resolvable problem in your community, your answer is to blame it on a vast, unsolvable issue of structural inequality and then throw up your hands. "there's trash all over the ground in this corner of the park" becomes "well, that's where MEN OF COLOR congregate after their 12-HOUR GRAVEYARD SHIFTS and i'm not going to support a CARCERAL SOLUTION to a CAPITALISTIC PROBLEM. WE NEED TO ELIMINATE POVERTY AND THE SUBJUGATION OF THE WORKING CLASS" and it's like okay but sis. someone still has to go pick up the trash. we don't need a carceral solution, we need more trash cans. you're not going to eliminate poverty and the subjugation of the working class and even if ya did, there would still be trash on the ground. how any of this passes for radicalism within their peer groups i simply don't understand. it's radical laziness more than anything else

Hey kid you want a job?
Great get online and go to a job board. Indeed, Linkedin whatever. Now you're gonna search for a role that's in your city, fits your qualifications, and doesn't seem like a bad time.
See that easy apply button? Don't hit it they just throw those in the trash. Now you're gonna want to go to the company's website and check their careers page.
Oh? That job doesn't exist anymore. Cool go back to the job board and find another one.
Great you found another job, you're on the company's career page and the job exists!! So you're going to need to make an account on the career page website. They're using Workday, the same site as the last job you applied for? Who cares? You need to make another account for THIS job's workday page.
Now you're going to upload your resume. That'll autopopulate about 15 boxes with everything on your resume, except formatted wrong and with tons of errors. So just go through and painstakingly check the dates on all of that and rewrite everything you already laid out in an aesthetically pleasing format on your resume.
Ok time for the cover letter, explain why this specific job and company are deeply important to you. You love their mission statement and wouldn't even laugh if their ceo was gunned down in the street. You'll really want to reiterate the things you just spent the last 20 minutes filling out on the resume section
(Remember to include language from the job description, people who work in HR are lower than dogs and they need patterns or they get confused.) Write about a page, but hey don't sound too desperate or robotic this is where they judge your character!
Maybe add your portfolio site at the end here, who knows if that helps no one has ever clicked mine haha.
Anywayyy time to hit apply! Congrats! You'll see that confirmation email come in and you should be getting the rejection letter in about 2 weeks. Unfortunately your resume didn't have the right buzzwords and the AI auto rejected you :(
Time to start again and try not to kill yourself!

“If I had time travel I’d kill Hitler” “If I had time travel I’d stop my favourite politician getting assassinated” you’re all thinking way too small. If I had time travel I’d stop Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin from dying on the moon due to Soviet sabotage, kicking off the Great Nuclear War and devastating half of the planet.

#?#This is so weird to me#I want to have friends with diverse interests#Anything less would be boring and lacking in nuance#I do question when people only read certain genres#But have even had that challenged so far as to realize there are whole perspectives I have never even considered#The world is so much more fascinating when curious about everything around you#That said the real red flag is can the other persion handle any nuanced discussion about what they love if I dislike it#Or worse if I also love it but they can't handle any differing opinions in a shared interest#My intense self has had to learn how to tone down these conversations#Because they're fun and fascinating and I love to understand different perspectives

I follow and unfollow folks on a whim. And I do a lot of queue reblogging. There are some people I follow that I am fond of, one or two I've actually had brief tumblr interactions with. Some people I don't unfollow and always wonder why they're on my dash but keep them. Pretty sure I've followed and unfollowed a few of my people more than once. I've a single mutual I met elsewhere, who I hope is doing well, who I worry about, but also who I've not heard from in months.
Tumblr is a great platform because we all can experience it in different ways.
Absolutely crazy to me that people will unfollow a long time mutual and then just keep reblogging their posts if they turn up? But I am someone who views being friends with your ex as strange and unnatural.
#Have also definitely reblogged a lot of posts from people I didn't follow#It's fun to see how different others view the platform

This is a legitimate and damaging cultural shift for all involved parties and it needs to be addressed.
#This#Batman had nothing on random adults showing up#If I did stupid things or started to think about it I swear members of the community just appreared out of the shadows#If they didn't Mom would later causally mention that she knew such-and-such happened#Like I got away with stuff and learned stuff#But was snatched out of trouble if I needed snatching#Community is a great thing
