The tour finale happens this weekend with 2 shows - a performance at the Spanish Ballroom in Tacoma and the final Wish You Were Here performance on Saturday night at the San Juan Community Theater in Friday Harbor WA!

Back on stage !
January 2020 seems like another life ago.  When we walked off the stage after the show at Revolution Hall on Jan 25th 2020, we were already talking about fine tuning rehearsals for the next run of shows to kick off in 6 weeks time. We  had absolutely no idea that it was to be the last backstage moment for our band and crew for the better part of 2 years.
Tumblr media
Matt and Dave in Portland, OR on Jan 25th, 2020 - the band’s last pre-pandemic show.
Sometimes you simply don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone  - sounds cliched but it fits the moment at least for us here in POTW camp.  We certainly had plenty of moments of doubt as a band over the past 18 months that we would ever get back on a stage - that our last show was actually our final show.
Tumblr media
Bryan tuning drums before the show -  October 23rd, 2021 - Walla Walla WA
Maybe that helps explain how much it’s meant to us to be able to get back out there this fall - the shows have been incredible despite the logistical hurdles of the covid-era.  As a band we’ve never felt better about our performances, the production, and our team.

On the roof of the 7th Street theatre, Hoquiam WA - Sept 24, 2021: Wish You Were Here tour opening night
Most striking though has simply been the support of  you, our fellow Pink Floyd fans. From your gracious willingness to roll with it when we set off fire alarms on opening night ( yep the hazers work still) to a full house Wish You Were Here sing along in our home town - it means everything to us to have you there with us.
Shine On You Crazy Diamonds - we’ll see you out there on the road soon!

The Show goes on!
Tumblr media
Pigs on the Wing’s fall lineup is on!  While it has been a less certain ride than we’d like for touring bands and all of us in the music business as we’ve all geared back up to return to stage, we’re confident that with your help and support we can do this safely. We’ll be strictly following all state and local health guidance as well as any additional venue policies as we roll out our Wish You Were Here tour this fall - please check with the venue for specific Covid-19 policies in place for shows.
At this time, all announced shows / dates are on sale with our first 2 stops being a reduced capacity show at 7th Street Theater in Hoquiam, WA on Sept 24th,  and The Liberty Theater in Astoria, OR on Sept 25th!   See the band’s tour page for the list of announced fall dates!
Here’s a quick Q and A:
Q:  Are you planning to postpone or cancel any shows due to the Delta variant?
A:  At this time, all announced dates are on sale and we currently have no plans to postpone any shows, pending all local and state health mandates.   If we do have to postpone any dates, we will work with venues and ticketing to honor all tickets at a rescheduled date, or offer the choice of receiving a full refund.
Q: Are masks required?
A: Masks are currently required indoors by Oregon and Washington state law unless you are actively eating or drinking ( or in our case, performing). As of now, Pigs has no announced dates outside of Oregon or Washington.
Q: Is proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test required?
A:  This requirement varies by venue but is increasingly becoming standard - we suggest checking with the venue directly if you have questions about this. We fully support these requirements as they seem to be the best way to ensure the show does indeed go on as well as protect the health & safety of all our fans, staff, band/crew, local community and the music industry in general.  Doing so will play an important role in our collective effort to continue to comfortably carry on through this and future challenges in the ongoing pandemic.
Q:  Are you limiting capacity at shows?
A: Currently there are no capacity restrictions on venues in Oregon and Washington.  However, we do work closely with our venue partners to make sure we have as safe as possible an experience for everyone, which does in some cases include voluntarily limiting capacity.
Q:  I changed my mind and decided not to go after I bought tickets.  How do I get a refund?
A:  Please contact the vendor from which you purchased tickets for refunds.  Pigs on the Wing does not directly handle any ticket sales and cannot offer refunds directly.  We have however asked our venue and ticketing partners to honor all refund requests.
Shine on!

Pigs perfect playlist volume 2: Matt
Tumblr media
Welcome to the next edition of Pigs perfect playlist!  We asked the band what their desert island playlist might look like if they could pick anything EXCEPT Pink Floyd songs...
Tribute band status aside, we always felt that we’ve actually embraced the fact that many bands and influences define our approach to performing the music of Pink Floyd and out styles as musicians both individually and as a band.  Some might be pretty obvious but others maybe less so.
This time we asked Pigs on the Wing’s keyboardist and vocalist Matt Jones what his top picks would be.  Matt went with an all-live version playlist which you can check out and listen / watch on Youtube HERE:  Matt’s Pigs Perfect Playlist!
In case you’re wondering, here’s what he picked:
1. Dada - Ask the Dust (live)
2. Radiohead - 15 Steps (live)
3. Muse - Knights of Cydonia (live)
4. Talking Heads - Slippery People (live)
5. Ben Folds Five - Selfless, Cold, and Composed (live)
6. Pete Townsend - Drowned (live)
7. Lyle Lovett - North Dakota (live)

Pigs perfect playlist volume 1:  Bryan
Tumblr media
Hey fellow Floydians!  Well, here we are on the very last day of this most unusual of years. For the majority of recent years our band and crew would be getting ready to soundcheck ( most recently with a run at Rhythm & Ryein Olympia! ) and fine tuning the set list for a NYE show....obviously things are different this year.
While we of course aren't playing a NYE show this year, for a little  fun we recently asked everyone in Pigs -  band and production crew -  what their perfect desert island playlist would look / sound like...and we wanted to kick that off tonight!   The only rule:  it has to be something OTHER than Pink Floyd.
Up first, here's what Pigs drummer Bryan Fairfield shared with us....Listen to Bryan's desert island perfect playlist HERE on the Pigs YouTube channel:
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL86EeJRLCubpg6HHmHEQoVAgNs6jlt8_T
Medeski Martin & Wood - Sugarcraft Thom Yorke - Black Swan Mr. Bungle - Sweet Charity Radiohead - Subterranean Homesick Alien Faith No More - Stripsearch John Medeski & Mathew Shipp - Chance Operation Dave Brubeck - Take Five They Might Be Giants - Snailshell
Check it out, have a safe and happy New Years Eve....and here's to seeing you again in 2021!- Pigs

Oxcart: the band behind the band
The fact that we in Pigs on the Wing  never intended to be a tribute band is actually an important building block of Pigs on the Wing’s sound and a badge the band wears with pride. Those of you who have heard the lore (or been coming to Pigs shows for a while) probably know about Oxcart, which was actually the band from which Pigs on the Wing directly evolved.
Tumblr media
Our first Pink Floyd tribute show actually was an Oxcart show, and at the time the band had no intention at all of ever becoming a tribute band, which we associated with sleazy Elvis-type Vegas lounge acts. Oxcart originally featured Matt Jones ( keys) and Jason Baker ( guitar and vocals)  - both still with the Pigs, as well as Ben Carey ( bass) and Jason Rieve ( drums).  Eric Welder, Pigs current bassist later replaced Ben Carey in Oxcart and you can hear his performance on the third ( and presumably, though not certainly, final) Oxcart record.  So in a very real way, Oxcart is Pigs on the Wing.
Tumblr media
Oxcart somewhere in Idaho, sometime in 2005; L to R:  Ben Carey, Jason Baker, Matt Jones, Kevin Still.
Oxcart’s very first show was actually at a long since departed venue called the Arnada cafe in Vancouver, WA in November of 2004.  As recalled by Pigs / Oxcart guitarist Jason Baker, “It was definitely a  shithole in the loveliest punk rock sort of way.  I think maybe 10 people showed up, and the bartender just laughed when we asked for our pay at the end of the night”.  While not much noteworthy happened that night, a set of originals was performed with, as recollected by the band members, 2 covers: one was a funky, ill advised version of Metallica’s Sad But True and the other was….wait for it…..Pink Floyd’s Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun.
Tumblr media
Early Oxcart photo shoot, circa 2005
From that distant autumn night at the Arnada cafe  through the next 7 years, until mid 2011, Oxcart steadily pounded the pavement throughout the NW, spawning 3 albums, volumes of road and stage stories, a few higher profile opening slots, and vital rock n roll experience points for the band members….but not much success in building a following for a style of music so hopelessly out of touch with mid-aught musical tastes.   However, it crucially built one more thing:  Pigs on the Wing.
Tumblr media
On the evening of Oct 20, 2006 the band members of Oxcart ( Matt Jones, Jason Rieve, Ben Carey, and Jason Baker) loaded in gear through the dimly lit back door of the Mt Tabor Theater on SE Hawthorne ( then known as Sabala’s, now known as Quarter World)  in Portland with a sense of anxiousness about what the night would hold.  Oxcart had been rehearsing a full performance of the Dark Side of the Moon album for the past several months to accompany the band’s all original set and had a lot riding on the show. Recalls guitarist Jason Baker,  “ We had done a dry run of the show maybe a month before on the same stage and literally, no one but the sound guy was there.  And that’s far from the only time stuff like this had happened, I don’t know that Oxcart had ever performed in front of more than maybe 30 people at that time.  So we were worried this might all be a flop too”.
Tumblr media
Outtake from ‘The Equation’ photo shoot
Fortunately, it wasn’t. The night was a stellar success ( by Oxcart standards anyway) and thus was born, at least in concept, the idea for Pigs on the Wing.    While Oxcart went on to record 2 more albums and perform many more shows, Pigs on the Wing slowly took on it’s own identity and eventually became a separate band with mostly different members.  In 2011, following a summer supporting the band’s final release, Oxcart decided to call it quits indefinitely to focus on Pigs on the Wing, bringing us slowly into line with the band we know today as Pigs on the Wing.
Tumblr media
Oxcart at the Bitter End, Portland OR 2008
What does Oxcart sound like?  Well, only occasionally like Pink Floyd. Through three records, hundreds of shows and thousands of miles of travel - the band slowly found a sound that began with a very spacey, smooth sound that touched on jam band and Steely Dan vibes to edgy, psychedelic hard rock by the final album more in line with Muse or Queens of the Stone Age.  It wasn’t and isn’t a sound that necessarily appeals to classic rock or specifically Pink Floyd fans - and it may not be for you. On the other hand, it might be - so check out the discography and links below and if you like what you hear - consider picking up a copy

Here is a quick Oxcart  discography and links to check out and purchase the music if you’re interested:
Tumblr media
Sasquatch ( 2005):  Oxcart’s debut album was recorded and mixed in bassist Ben Carey’s home studio in North Portland. This album captures the band in its early years with a softer, spacier, jammier sound than the band’s later works. A lot of the work is instrumental only, and there is a range of styles at play.  Oxcart released this album locally in Sept 2005 with performances at Music Millennium and The Bitter End, both now-defunct Portland institutions.
Listen if you like:  Pink Floyd, Steely Dan,  gut wrenching metal
Recommended tracks: Fooled Me Once; Mississippi

Tumblr media
The Equation ( 2008):  Oxcart’s sophomore album followed on the heels of the band’s metamorphosis into Pigs on the Wing in 2006-07. Drummer Alex Feletar joined Oxcart’s lineup in 2008, helping create the  heavier, more classic / modern rock oriented sound heard on this release. The album is a true concept album in 70s rock fashion, with a specific storyline following a protagonist through multiple life events into his eventually becoming a founding member of a new religion.  Oxcart recorded this album straight to analog tape at Big Red Studios in Corbett, OR - a much larger budget recording than the previous ( or following) recording - and it does come through in the big drums sounds and overall production.
Listen if you like:  Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Pink Floyd
Recommended Tracks:  Wishes , Desert
Buy it here on Apple Music / I-tunes
Tumblr media
Beekeeper Constellation (2011): Oxcart’s third ( and final?) studio album featured the lineup closest to present day Pigs on the Wing, with Eric Welder replacing Ben Carey on bass duties ( in fact, if you happened to catch Pigs on the Wings’ Jan 2020 show at Revolution Hall in Portland, you would have seen this version of Oxcart all on stage as Alex Feletar sat in on drums that night with Pigs).  Beekeeper Constellation is generally regarded by the band as their best, most consistent work - charting a heavy, psychedelic sound at times entering grunge and stoner rock territory and other times charting or progressive rock style reminiscent of early Rush.  This album is also a story based, concept album, though a bit less loosely than The Equation.   Fun fact, the album was engineered and produced by David Lindenbaum, also of Pigs on the Wing.
Recommended tracks:  The Light , Delusions
