[VID][Ginger magazine - January 2019] XU WEIZHOU - Interview
Brief trans (cr.doeeyedbb):
☆ Hello everyone at Ginger, I’m XWZ (both in Mandarin and Shanghainese).
☆ Q: Fav outfit today.
ZZ: I like them all. We are trying a very artistic style today. Mr. Yanjun, our cameraman, wants to create a sense of movies, so we try to look as natural as possible.
☆ Q: Comment on your great fashion resources please?
ZZ: I’m happy and grateful for the recognition. Fashion has always been a course to me. I need to keep learning as I go. There’s still lots of room for improvement.
☆ Q: What do you do in private to maintain your good performance?
ZZ: I didn’t know much about fashion before starting my career in the show biz. I gradually established my own attitude in all the shootings I’ve done.
☆ Q: You mentioned in your book that 60% of you is rational and 40% is emotional, how did you get the ratio?
ZZ: I did the shooting for this book a year ago in LA. It was like a journal of my tour in the US. I wanted to present the real me in my real life. Cuz normally people see me on the stage or in TV shows. So I wanted people to see more of me, more aspects of me, some rare aspects that are often hidden. So here they are, me in the pool, me in the supermarket, etc. There are also some of my thoughts of being an artist, of my growth, some of my childhood stories.
☆ Q: We did the shooting today in Shenzhen cuz you’re working on your new show here, so, brief intro of PingPong, please.
ZZ: As you can see from the name of the show, Ping Pong is about the growth of Ping Pong players, from teenagers to young men, and eventually (championship). A story of them maturing up and their games.
☆ Q: Do you know how to play Ping Pong?
ZZ: No.
☆ Q: Then how do you act as a pro-player? Is there any training going on?
ZZ: It’s a fun sport. We all played Ping Pong as a kid, just never learned or trained formally. So I had some professional and systematic training of this new skill for this show. Many of our coaches are from the national team. The pressure is real.
☆ Q: You must be a good player after all this.
ZZ: Got a new skill.
☆ Q: Why do you switch from city life to sport theme this time? How do you choose your roles?
ZZ: My role in Ping Pong is pretty similar to myself. So this time, I want to put some of my own personality in this role. Ping Pong is the national sport of China, has a wide acceptance. I want to help promote the sport as well.
☆ Q: In real life, are you a man of Plan B like Chi Xin, or are you more of a go-with-the-flow type?
ZZ: Chi Xin is totally different from me, in terms of personality. You will know once you watch the show, he’s totally a Virgo in my opinion. He has very high standards for everything. There are many cute and funny things between him and Ding Xiaorou.
☆ Q: Why did you keep using Light as the theme of your albums and tours?
ZZ: I entered the show biz as an actor, but music has always been my dream and goal. I think I’m in the searching process of light. I interpreted the true meaning of light in my Beijing concert of my 2nd Asia tour. The real light is my fans. They are my light, and my motivation all along this way.
☆ Q: Impressive details of your concert tour?
ZZ: So many of them. I started my first tour in Beijing, and then Seoul, Shenzhen, Bangkok and finished it in my hometown Shanghai. I think my fans, my Baizhous have been the most impressive to me all along this way. They came to my shows with me. They are just like my family. (In my shows) I was just relaxed and being myself.
☆ Q: I saw in your Weibo that there was a slogan in your ad, saying “getting labelled all along”. So what are your labels?
ZZ: I don’t really mind about this.
☆ Q: Do you think of it as a good thing or a bad thing?
ZZ: Just ignore the labels, as the second line of the slogan says. I think you just need to be yourself, no matter what people say about you, they say them cuz they are watching you. So just focus on your own thing, focus on being you. And people’s opinion will change accordingly.
☆ Q: Just like the title of your book, This Is XWZ.
ZZ: Right, this is me.
☆ Q: Fav part of your face?
ZZ: Nose.
☆ Q: Fav quality of yourself?
ZZ: Being stubborn.
☆ Q: With whom would you switch your life for a day?
ZZ: Owner of a pet store.
☆ Q: Best thing of this year?
ZZ: The year of fate is finally coming to an end
☆ Q: Fav season?
ZZ: Spring.
☆ Q: Fav travel destination?
ZZ: China.
☆ Q: Latest travel destination?
ZZ: Italy.
☆ Q: Funniest thing about yourself that you’ve seen online?
ZZ: Stickers my fans made for me.
☆ Q: Say something to your Baizhous who are watching Ginger.
ZZ: Hope that you can find the style and attitude you like at Ginger. Stay tuned for the January issue, there will be lots of xwz in it. Also, best of luck to Ginger!
I can't stop listening to this song. I didn't even know he's got a solo version until yesterday. I keep on settling on the all cast version where he only have few lines 😅
“Then I’ll cook for you, surely what I cook will be worse than him. I could also wash the clothes for you, we will buy a box of underwear, throw one everytime washing.”
