Artist Statement
I work primarily on paper using acrylic medium and drawing.  I find an immediacy with drawing that is unparallel to that of other media. Yet, I am drawn to the process.  The unseen within the obvious, where it takes me is always an adventure.  The crossing over and blurring of the lines; animals with human features, and humans with animal characteristics surrounded by or being enveloped by nature and trees with a malevolent sense of humor.  They are imaginary hybrids in a constant state of change that often have a whimsical and childlike appearance, but like fairy tales and myths they hold a darker and more challenging story than meets the eye.

Untitled New Work
Artist; Sam Kirk
Sam Kirk is a multidisciplinary artist and muralist with national and international experience in developing public installations and programs that inspire pride and recognition for marginalized communities. Her work explores culture, identity, and the politics that have formed society for generations.
Her vibrant color palette, intricate line-work and multi-toned figures reveal a world where differences are valued. The many shades of beige, brown, and black are seen as equal colors of our genetic makeup. A multi-racial, queer woman born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, her paintings and murals combine nostalgic city scenes from her childhood and travels around the world.
She has maintained a successful public art career with 50+ murals completed nationally and internationally with some major cities including Chicago, New York, and Casablanca. She has collaborated with many notable companies and brands such as WBEZ, US Women’s Soccer, Chicago White Sox, and AT&T among many others.
Kirk has exhibited throughout the US in galleries and museums. Her artwork is in several notable collections, including a recent piece about transgender identity in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Mexican Art.
Last year, the city of New York, installed her artwork around an entire city block in the center of Times Square as part of their World Pride 2019 celebration. She was featured in O Magazine and Forbes for the work she continues to do to spark dialogue around topics of equality and visibility for women, communities of color, and the LGBTQIA community.

Our New Direction
We are excited to announce our new collaboration with Tommy Reyes of Gallery19! This partnership came about at a time when we as Pilsen Outpost were reflecting on how we would continue to move forward and keep the space sustainable in not just running as a gallery, but to also build on and maintain what has now grown into a community space for many over the years. This is just one of many exciting steps and transitions we will be taking in the coming year as we grow together and work towards an even bigger scope of what Pilsen Outpost has become.
We sincerely Thank You all for the continued support over the years. We ask that you continue to share by word of mouth and social media, but more now than ever, we are counting on everyone to come thru to the exhibitions, purchase items from the shop, and send folks our way to keep supporting what we have been doing since day one. That which has been, sharing all art forms, providing opportunities, sharing resources, and being that friendly open door to keep all engaged in our community.
Join us on Friday, February 7th for the first exhibition of the year, and celebrate our new partnership with Tommy of Gallery 19 and official Pilsen Outpost Curator. We will be sharing the space collaboratively with exhibitions presented and hosted by one another and have an incredible line up for 2020!

First up Trent Call
Call’s work combines formal academic painting, comics, graffiti, and popular culture. He currently works out of CAPTAIN CAPTAIN Studios in beautiful downtown Salt Lake City. "Using the grid method - the classical tool to determine proportions - and the female form as timeless icon, I focused on dissolving the boundaries of the figure to explore the relationship between organic and rigid forms, context, and composition."
