Why I love ETS2 so much and why I started playing (even with 20FPS)!
I used to play Forza Horizon 5 and I still play Gran Turismo 7. They are fun games but I wanted something different.
Now I didn't choose ETS2 because I love European trucks, I didn't choose it because I love manoeuvring these large machines through the tight roads of Europe... I only came across it because I literally searched "what driving simulator has the largest european map".
I live in Australia yet I've been to Europe and driven there multiple times and it's definitely my favourite continent from architecture to the roads and everything about it. ETS2 was what came up and I managed to get my hands on it. I started playing in version 1.49.
At first I was clueless - turning around a sharp corner like I've got a Smart Fortwo even though I was carrying a trailer, thinking my 350hp truck had a max speed of 56mph, not investing in drivers or using my own trailer.
My first mod was a heavy traffic mod which was quite fun but I soon downloaded a car mod and tried to do a trip from Aberdeen to Vienna even when I had my Volvo FH3 (my first beloved truck ❣️) on 100% damage and couldn't afford to fix any part of my truck. This soon made me go from 700 euros balance to -72,000 euros (no I'm not exaggerating). I had to go back a lot of saves.
For about a month I drove normally with my truck always malfunctioning at high speeds then restarting in a low gear and making me slow down again.
I also made the mistake of starting in Birmingham in the UK which was obviously a bad choice and it made me think ETS2 was a cool simulator game but with a very basic map with bad graphics. I had watched some videos on the game earlier but I still didn't choose another country. And worst of all, I didn't know you need to discover more places to get jobs that take me out of the UK so I only had a few jobs that took me to Calais.
After that, I had started driving more carefully and advancing in trucks after investing in two drivers and getting myself a DAF XG+ 530, a Scania 730S and a Volvo FH4 750 before trying more trucks, trailers and exploring the game further.
I saved up and moved my headquarters to my favourite city in Europe: Munich, Germany. From there on, I worked hard, got more mods, drove well (lots of zero truck, trailer and cargo damage on jobs) and enjoyed the game.
Fast forward to present day and I have 7 million euros, 2100 hours (in about 1 and a half years), more than 25 drivers and I'm still expanding. I have purchased all DLCs and have a relatively large map combo with Afroeurasia and sometimes I use EAA.
I have come to know a lot about the game and now I help new people with tips and more.
My favourite DLC is Beyond the Baltic Sea closely followed by West Balkans and Road to the Black Sea but I also enjoy Going East and Italia a lot. My favourite country including mods to drive in is Russia.
Now my favourite truck is 50/50 between a Volvo FH6 420 and a Volvo FH6 780. It's an amazing truck in game along with a sound mod, interior mod and a customisation mod. But I still use lots of other trucks and I love DAF for fuel efficiency and MAN or Scania for a luxurious experience like Volvo but also something different.
I'm currently doing a trip from St Petersburg, Russia to Skopje, North Macedonia and I can just get locked into the game. Sometimes in the UK, I just wanna follow the rules but also get the job done quickly resulting in me getting a bit of damage and fines. But in these Eastern European DLC countries, time seems to move slowly but in a good way. I enjoyed a mix of the Baltic roads and also the nice relaxing highway drive through Poland and some town driving in Warsaw and outer suburbs.
This game is like no other with one of the largest maps of any game except for games with rockets through the universe or Minecraft.
I can't stop playing it and I genuinely don't need a change up of games ever.
And for all you people complaining about how your NVIDIA 3060 or something is getting you 60 FPS instead of 80 FPS, just know that I used to play on 200 percent scaling with 8 FPS and occasionally got 18 FPS which made the biggest difference and I absolutely loved the game.
Now I have a 38 inch widescreen monitor and I still use a 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1335U 1.30 GHz so a pretty bad iGPU for gaming and I play on 50 percent scaling with 17-30 FPS and I get 2 FPS every 5 seconds yet this game is still amazing to play.
