Reflection on experimentation with constraint
From that multitasking experiment of constraint made me realize this idea of double-sided artwork on a flat surface. Not necessarily two separate work on each side but communication between them. Painting them both at the same time alternating between sides. There is also this idea of mirroring, maybe using clearer paper so you can see both sides. Or light shining through so that you can see two sides of the work at the same time as an overlap. I could also set a time limit on each side so I don’t get carried away in one without the other. I could paint both sides ‘blindly’  that is without seeing the other side or the final result or I could use clearer paper so it is more of a dialogue between the two sides.

Experiment of movements
Dancing or in communication with the music moving and drawing at the same time. Quite abstract.
Reflection of tryout
Started dancing expressively still trying to trace something  on a paper but it was more like lines and expressive , I think if I want to expand on that I would need to have a suite have paint on my hands and feet and dance on a paper but I was also more interested in the connections of my own body like a bodysuit or clothes that are marked where I touch myself during the dance.
Then I thought more of this idea of drawing with the canvas that is moving to start thinking of a reverse: having the pen at a stop and only moving the board, paper. It was quite hard to draw things , I have to think of what kinds of things to draw from that.
But I would like maybe to be able to expand that to some sort of random machine communication between a machine and a human. A machine making the canvas move at random and the artist tries to draw or paint something on it, the machine, in that case, plays a part in the artwork. Like the communication between human and technology collaboration in a  sense.

Tryout of self-portrait, expanding that ides of the movement of the paper and the control in that rather than the movement of the tracer of the pen.
I need much more practice to make something expressive and also cool as well, for now, the result is very abstract and not very pretty. Spend more time practicing this technique maybe. this idea of facing the paper almost as its own proportions. maybe I could try drawing onto a mirror. Just brainstorming ideas here. I don’t know if this is something to work more on or maybe to work on leading in another direction.

Experience  experiment
Boundary experiments Experiment
Multitasking doing many things while making a work -
 eating a mandarin
dancing
breathing
listening to music
watching the news on tv
This idea of doing a million things  and still painting
I was scared to try it , I’m not every good and doing many things at once
This practice of dot sketch drawing I usually just listen to music and quite calmly so introducing movement and a more chaotic scene was interesting. It made me draw on both sides of the paper at once which as interesting except technically the idea of double-sided or many sides painting and doing it all at once shifting from back to front was an interesting concept I could work on more. had some technical problems though because I smudged it a bit since it’s using acrylic paint.
It’s hard to focus on the one thing like you can‘t really think about what your painting because you’re thinking of soo many other things but the trick I think is to let emotions and feeling run free let your mind run wild and record it on paper in some abstract way.
I would like to try it with another medium maybe just drawing what I’m thinking about like an expressive sketch while I’m dancing on the music and listening watch tv.
I quite enjoyed painting and dancing at the same time, this idea of no just your hand moving on a painting but also the canvas or the paper to move as well more like a connection of movement between two objects rather then you adding something on something fix.
I might try this again and see and record the movement.
The final result is not too interesting but the experience was quite revealing. The white on the paper was tieback of the pepper originally which I then decided to use anyway

Inspired by Sarah Sze way of making a sculptural assemblage that re-works the objects into a system
Creating this sculpture , over the swamp around the bin , was our first thought title , it was quite hard to come up with a Good title. This work has a a few different thoughts and meaning to it at first we thought was this shift from the urban life style where we can see a representation of a house with the brick and the glass the tape and the peg and the paint roller and the other side is more linked to nature and how plastic and our society is sophicating it with the greenish tone and the leaf. I found the bright pink tape on the leaf to be extremely interesting because of that contrast.
This sculpture has this sense of balance like almost defying gravity which makes it quite interesting. We also have this concept of convergent and divergent , like constructing something like beholding the house with a tape and the brick and the paint roller and on the other side deconstructing of nature with the broken wood broken chair and the plastic over covering it.

Week 1 -DART1101
Finding commitments for this term , my faoubrit ones and the ones I will try to keep up is making non related uni art 4 hours a week- drink more water - documentation of artwork
And my class activity of raking and A4 price of paper and making soemthing that pushed this standards o tried to make the longest possible string with that one piece of paper all connected.

Concept statement
Looking Through Glass is a photo/drawing series exploring organic and natural shapes found in man made objects. These organic shapes are full of texture and a range of shades, which I emphasized in the drawings, explored the hidden fault of something that looks so perfect and mundane. Even though they are faults, they create something beautiful. Based in the kitchen through the experiments, I have explored how to evade this space, go over the mundane of the kitchen while using materials that could only be found there. Through my experiments I have made so many new and interesting discoveries that I would like to explore more. This project has enhanced my understanding of exploration and experimentation and the positive outcomes of this process. Starting by looking at other artists such as Nina Katchadourian and her project ‘Seat Assignment’, this greatly inspired me and helped me understand the ways in which you could transform objects to create new meanings. From exploring with plates to create springs, to making a flying saucer, the milky way, aliens and cells I have explored both the macroscopic and microscopic scales of our world all discovered in my kitchen. I’ve worked much more with photography with this project so, for my final work, I wanted to get back to drawing, especially because I found the texture in the photographs so intriguing that I wanted to expand and explore further.

Experiment 5
Rules
Cut different pieces of paper and colour different colours then drop them randomly on a white background and then reproduce this on photoshop push the different cells shapes I Have discovered.
Tumblr media
Image 1: photograph of the experiment ( Felixe Rives )
Tumblr media
Image 2 : Digital collage/ photomontage (Felixe Rives)
This was an interesting deviation form my experiments I think the images of cells don’t look as amazing when they overlap it looks very much like  a collage which it is and dent look as real as I expected it to. Maybe to improve this I would need make them almost semi transparent in oder to see the overlapping and concentration in certain spaces making ht image look slightly three dimensional.

Experiment 4 part 3
And then I found some more organic shapes which almost looked likes cells so i tried to create almost like something you would see through a microscope.
Tumblr media
Image 1: photograph of cell ( Felixe Rives)
Tumblr media
Image 2 : Pool of cells, Digital collage ( Felixe Rives)
I think I could develop more this concept and work on it more to make it seem even more real researching more about the cells and how they look and how they would be seen through a telescopes, the colours that are sued by scientists to describe them and view them. And the texture of the region in which they exist.
Tumblr media
Image 4: Photogaph light shining through glass 1 ( Felixe Rives)
Looking at these organic shapes I was also interested in the intricate different textures  they all created because of the imperfection in the glass.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Image 5-6: Photogaph light shining through glass 2-3 ( Felixe Rives)
I was really fascinated by those last circles and how even strong bold colours such as vibrant blue and yellow emerge. The contrast and the bright light and dark areas as well as the smoothness and textural contrast really intrigued me. I think no one would guess that these where made with wine glasses for a standard kitchen. It is really creating something new out of the mundane.
Similarly Len Lye created this sculpture Fountain III, which he projected on a wall to create this amazing photograph this really intrighed my with the layers and the movement which is apparent in the work. Asn the different shades as the work overlaps captures my attention.
Tumblr media
Image 7: Fountain IIIat Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, Nrw Plymouth, 1977. Len Lye fountain collection
For my final work  I will  draw them using charcoal and dry pastels, it would be interesting with the shades and different textures maybe highlighting them and creating something organic. I think I will present both the drawings with the images.

Experiment 4 Part 2
As I was splaying with the glasses it was getting dark and i saw a few shadows which i decided to expense by shining more lights through them.  This time I found a series of weird and fun shapes that where really unexpected I found an alien and even shaping almost like a new city form out of space or  mushroom forest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even finding a portal to go thought space and time to travel in space to another planet.
Tumblr media
When I discovered  all this I was so excited really showing all my family what i had found screaming everywhere and really really happy.
From  what I have found I think if I wanted to work more on this experiment i could be able to create almost like a story with a new world new characters which could be the alien the new city maybe even make a comic strip with a story with those characters travelling maybe all the way to earth with through the portal.
I’ve always been fascinated by the shadows when he sun goes down and your shadow is huge its daintily a topic that i wanted to work on eventually but I had never used light to enhance this shadows and in the case create shadows which could no be seen normally.
I also created this little video because I found as I was moving the light it looked almost alive.
vimeo
As I was experimenting with this I was intrigued by the artists Len Lye who also uses light as well as flashing, mouvemnt cinematography and a series of other medium all to convey the idea of the art of movement and finding capturing and conveying energies .
This mushroom looking shapes almost goes to life like a cell or an alien , creeping the viewer which feel a bit uncomfortable or maybe fascinated by this moving thing. Not sure of what it is.

Experiment 4
This experiment was a major breakthrough I discovered so many interesting things, after the plates I decided to play with some glasses looking at different angles of the glasses to make different shapes.
I started by finding eyes and got interested with the shades that I could do playing with the photos. These little pallets looks fun. this is not however my favourite e part of my discoveries.

Experiment 3
I started looking at the smaller plates I had in my house and thought that jointing two small plates looked like a flying saucer  so I tried to recreate the classic alien scene with the flying saucer stealing something from earth. i was not sure how to photograph the plates in order to crop them out good so tried my nest to have a good picture. This took me quite a while because I am not used to using photo editors like photo shop but it is a skill that I am happy to develop and will try to learn more later on.
Tumblr media

Image 3-4 : Collage flying saucer
I was quite happy with the result, I thought it was an interesting thing I try and even though it might look a bit sketchy and not professional this could also be  style it almost looks like a collage, this could also remind the viewer of the artist’s mark, how you know that there is a human behind it because you see some mistakes and that it isn't perfect.
I have never really explored collage before so I found myself looking at the collage artists I have found that what just mad isn’t a collage but a photomontage which is type of collage made of actual photographs or photographic reproduction. One of the originators of the movement is Hannah Hoch. Another interesting artists that I looked at is Eugenia Loli she does the inverse of me putting space inside the kitchen with for example this collage
Tumblr media
Image 5: Collage ( Eugenia Loli) untitled
I thought this was an interesting experiment, while simple it is part of the idea of creating something outside the kitchen with objects you only find in the kitchen. As before I showed you that you can make the night sky, now I show you that you can find the flying saucer.

Experiment 1: plates part 2
As I continued playing with the balance of pates and how you could possible defy gravity it was scary to not make the plates fall but as I played with them I found something new and interesting, I saw how it created patterns with the plates as a background or landscape rather then an object.
Tumblr media
Image 1: original plates arangemtn, photograph (Felixe Rives)
Then I played with the angles to create these  almost jewel dreamy like pictures.
Tumblr media
Image 2 : Pattern discovered, photograph (Felixe Rives)
I don't think this will be very important for the rest of my experiments but I thought it was something interesting, these colours reminds me of something you would find in India  with the golden and the deep blue. I know I am always intrigued by contrast and colours this is why this captures my eye it almost looks like hills or maybe just a decor of a furniture.
