Honestly as a blind person I’m so tired of seeing fictional blind characters who don’t use white canes or other guides. “They have special powers so they know what’s around them” or “they’re confident enough to not need a guide” are common tropes, and I’m tired.

Are people scared that using a white cane will make their blind character seem weak? They can’t use a cane because they’re so special that they already know what’s around them, and other blind people who use guides are inferior because they’re not special?

I’m tired. Give your blind characters white canes and other guides. Let them hold onto their friends, let them have guide dogs. Don’t make white cane users feel ostracized for not being “strong enough” to go without.

Another thing that pisses me off is when a sighted character comes up with the fantasy equivalent of braille and teaches it to the blind character. Braille was invented by Louis Braille, a blind man, in 1824. The blind character should be the one coming up with it.

currently thinking about the parent reviews of HOA and how they are all about how the show encourages kids to break rules. yes I was radicalized by house of anubis. those weren’t school uniforms they wore red because they were communists.

I want everybody who’s calling Ken a Trophy Husband to know that he’s actually a Trophy Boyfriend, because when Ruth Handler invented Ken in the 1960s, she was adamant that he would never marry her and instead be her “handsome steady”, so that Barbie remained a figure of independence for the little girls and was never put in the position of housewife.

Her house is hers. She bought it and furnished it with money she made in her own job. In STEM, in politics, in healthcare, in fashion, in academy, in customer service. Her credit card is in her name (women in the US couldn’t have their own regardless of marital status until 1974). And it’s all pink and fashionable because femininity and badassness aren’t mutually exclusive. No matter who you are, you can be anything.

That’s why Barbie’s slogan is “you can be anything”. Teaching these ideals to little girls is why Barbie was created. Empowering women and empowering femininity is the original meaning of the Barbie doll. It’s not that you have to be all this to be a woman, but if you are all or some of this, you too are awesome.

And somehow pop culture deliberately changed that narrative. Sexualised, bimbofied, and villainised her, when she actually isn’t responsible for the impossible beauty standards — people are, she’s just a stylised, not-to-scale toy like most others.

Men are frothing because he’s just Ken and I guess they were expecting her to be just Barbie, but that’s exactly what Ken is. Canonically. A badass woman’s himbo boyfriend.

This movie has the potential to change the way we collectively see Barbie radically into what Ruth Handler’s intended, I’m so very excited

I would really love tumblr more than other platforms. Actually scratch that, I do. But I’ve been on here for many years and I’m still so confused about a lot of logistic stuff. If anyone sees this and knows the answers can you help me out? Keep in mind I’m on mobile but if I need I can probably go on the website (if I remember my login…)

- Sideblogs. I have several, but I don’t know how to like stuff from my sideblog specifically. For example one of them is @asouelove and I’ve been liking a lot of asoue stuff lately, but it says piper-williamson liked it.

- Similarly, when I follow someone I don’t know how to make it from my sideblog vs my main. Is there a way to change this? Or is it supposed to be like a MAIN main blog, and the other ones can’t be the same level?

- Friends. I mean this one I can’t really blame on tumblr logistics, but I see ppl making friends here and I’ve never been able to I think partially because of my lack of understanding of the interface. Anyway, lmk how y’all become friends! Like do you reblog each other’s stuff and then that creates friendship? Do y’all have discord?

That’s all I can think of now but I’ve wondered this for at least 5 years now (I can’t do math so I know it’s more but not by how much). Any help would be appreciated :)
