Pre-emptive apologies for manifesting more Trant-posting into the world and accelerating our collective entroponetic demise, but I need to share yesterday's Discord findings with @renmorris and @mindblownie

1. in Trant's pyrholidon slip-up, he tells Harry that his story shouldn't be hard to guess in a way that I think can be read as both "cops and addiction, you know perfectly well how that goes" and "dude you know me, personally, we did them drugs together"

2. this opens the possibility of Harry and Trant watching the fringe art house movies together while high on pyrholidon. At any rate, Having Opinions About Art is Trant's thing and also an established old Harry trait

3. as it were, we also know where that established old Harry trait comes from. oh yes we do. it comes from Dora. literally her job.

4. this in turn manifests the vanishingly implausible (but hilarious) chance that Harry's unnamed friend whom he was discussing entroponetics with as Dora smoked nearby may have been none other than Trant. Like he was her art acquaintance to begin with and that's how he got roped into the 41st.

THEREFORE: Harry got Trant in the divorce. thanks for coming to our TED talk

I grew up with childhood friends who are addicts and they're some of the only people who in my life who show me support and understanding. they're more compassionate about my autism than many actual special ed teachers and support workers. forgive me if I'm super defensive when I hear people shit talk a group that includes 75% of my truest, most dearest friends 🤷🏽‍♀️

I can't remember precisely but isn't there like a whole hero worship machismo culture in the RCM? bc I keep thinking about how Jean is all respectful of Kim as he's got a reputation for being the 57th's finest.

I wonder if Jean had that kind of hero worship towards Harry at the start of their partnership. Enough that they became "hetero sexual life partners" and had such a high solve rate together.

until Harry's disabilities became more apparent and the pedestal was broken. turns out Jean's "Can Opener" partner is this sad mopey guy that acts erratically and can't pull himself together. so Jean (as per workplace/dudebro culture) can't deal with all the complex emotions, does a 180, and doesn't do shit to (meaningfully) help Harry. by the end wants him fired/gone.

I wonder if, given time, Jean would react just the same towards Kim daring to have disabilities and flaws as well?

Off the top of my head, few of the extremely despicable things that Harry can do are intrinsically tied to his addiction. (Harming children, sexually harassing women, calling Kim a slur, being a bigot in general.)

Yet his addiction frequently seems to take center stage in many fanworks where he chooses to be awful.

The bigotry would still be there if he was sober, but it rarely is the main feature. Almost a footnote to his Real Flaw, huh...

but I really don’t understand how other Jean fans just don’t…deal with the fact that he leaves Harry to die in the bad end.* Like do people just not know about the bad end? What’s happening here? I don’t get why you’d just toss out what makes a character interesting and replace it with a generic personality from a network police procedural my grandma would watch

like Jean isn’t loyal. he’s unpleasant and cruel. this is what makes him actually interesting and is the role he fills in the story as an antagonistic bigot. he’s the kind of person who doesn’t rush to his partner's side when he’s shot but goes to the guy he was working with to get more ammunition to have him fired. he's self centered enough to prioritize his own mental illness as an excuse above the wellbeing of the civilians around him.

his victim complex is fascinating and hugely realistic to cops irl! he’s a total prick to Judit and Trant! he is frequently saying things that betray his right wing leanings, calling Trant a lefty dink or saying the liberals are going to come down on them for the piss jacket.

idk idk he’s just a very vivid and realistic person and watching that kind of guy get ground down and sanded off until there’s nothing left so he can be a likable woobie who sticks out like a sore thumb in a cast of complicated characters is depressing

*unless Those Types of fans are trying to justify it by saying Harry deserves it for (having the audacity to be disabled or completely made up reason)

idea: a month or so into their partnership, someone nefarious spies on Harry and Kim's conversations over phone/radio. thankfully, their conversations have become so full of batshit topics, wild tangents, inside jokes, and misc nonsense that they're nearly incomprehensible to any outside observer
