Just love the idea of Martin as someone who really doesn't go for melodrama falling hard for Jon, a man who in every sense but physical is playing a pipe organ underneath an opera house at all times.

‘Do Not Open’ is still one of my favorite episodes because of this absolute legend. He’s at the top of my list of badass people who survived encounters because they just ain’t with that shit.

haven't seen this in a while but it ticks me off to no end when people go back to reevaluate jon's s1 character in retrospect and say "he didn't actually think that carlos vittery's death by cobweb was a coincidence, he knew it was real but was just faking it" (which is correct) but then conveniently forget about the fake scepticism when looking at how he interacted with the statement givers, saying "all his disbelief was rational and not mean or overkill because do you really expect him to believe in vanishing haunted graveyards?" no comrade, he knew the whole time that if it didn't record to digital then it was real, he told people to their faces that they were lying and hallucinating anyway.

ok but like. lelan @hotdrinks has cursed and afflicted me with visions again.

the lonely represented as sand? not only because of the audibly grainy quality when peter talks - also that - but because sand is heavy and takes on ridiculous amounts of water and weighs you down and - famously - gets everywhere. like you roll around on a beach damp and fully clothed? it doesn’t matter how much you scrub, you’re going to be finding bits of sand in your pockets and your bedsheets and shoes you weren’t even wearing that day for the rest of time. on bad days maybe martin finds telltale grit under his pillow and in the pockets of his clothes even when he changes three times to be rid of it. maybe he has nightmares of being buried in wet sand that is nonetheless oddly warm? sure he can’t scream for help, but it’s so silent and cloying and blinding that if he focuses hard enough it almost feels peaceful. maybe when he wakes up he feels the crunch of a few errant grains between his teeth.

i dunno man. the lonely as sand. you ain’t ever gonna be rid of All The Grit.
