"why isn't there any good LGBT rep in games??" because you don't use itch io and don't believe art made by smaller teams is worth anything or you think nsfw art is an inherent moral failing. Go play a 20 minute porn game made by a depressed transfem lesbian and then maybe you'll calm down
Art doesn't owe you exclusively positive emotions. If the intent of a work of art is to induce sadness, rage, or frustration and it accomplishes that goal, that doesn't make the art of low quality.
I think people tend to understand this line of thinking easily when it comes to movies or books, but when it comes to video games it seems many people have a "fun over everything else" mentality. If a game isn't "fun" the entire time you are experiencing it, then it is "bad game design". The only emotion you are allowed to have during a "good" game according to this mindset is joy.
I think this is because games, unlike any other medium, allow the person experiencing the art to be directly involved in what is going on. When a frustrating thing happens in a movie, you might empathize with the character, sure. But when a frustrating thing happens in a game /you/ are the one experiencing the frustration. It forces emotional vulnerability, and I think that makes people uncomfortable, so they want to jump to blaming the quality of the art.
I think it's really important to approach games with an open mind like any other work of art. Examine what makes a game "good" in your opinion, and whether you are using the word "good" as a substitute for "fun" or "joyful".
People who are anti-voting can you please tell me a practical, rational, and achievable solution to preventing project 2025? I would do anything to not have to vote for a neolib ghoul and you sound like you have a good solution so I'd love to hear it!
Most people don't want to play a sokoban game with a lives system, so it offers optional easy to access ways to turn it off. The burdens exist because by the time you get them, you're likely more interested in the riddles than resolving the puzzle floors you've done multiple times by then. Narratively, it is a diagetic way to show that the protagonist is becoming less of a stranger and more a part of the void, able to traverse it effortlessly.
yeah they weren't lying about void stranger's extremely weird, sudden and offputting pro-life plotpoint
Saying a game is frustrating on purpose isn't the same as saying it's bad on purpose because bad =/= frustrating. Frustration is an emotion the game is evoking in the player for narrative purposes. The game is good and it's good on purpose, just not in ways that gel with everyone because really good art isn't usually going to be a hit with everyone, and that's fine!
yeah i don't know what there is to enjoy about void stranger
It's personally my favorite game I've played this year but it also made me cry with frustration that I felt I had wasted hours worth of time like twice. If you haven't seen an ending yet, I'd suggest just accepting the fruit and trying to see as much as you can that way, taking notes of anything weird along the way.
yeah i don't know what there is to enjoy about void stranger
Don't know if this makes it better or worse for you but the feelings of repetition, frustration, and hopelessness during early runs are intentional to serve the narrative.
yeah i don't know what there is to enjoy about void stranger
Totally forgot to post this follow-up I made after finishing the answer arcs ages ago, peak fiction.
I made a mockup of umineko as a famicom adv, inspired by one I saw of higurashi yesterday. (Please don’t spoil anything, I have only finished the questions arcs)
