Friendly reminder that: 

Natsu brought Lucy to Fairy Tail, which is the guild she admired and wanted to join.   

Even though he thought she was weird sometimes, Natsu still loved being around her because he thinks she is sweet. 

Lucy was able to calm Natsu down pretty early on in the story when he was heated up during a fight, which allowed him to come up with a plan. She’s able to calm him down in a similar manner in the Edolas arc when he was furious. 

Lucy trusted Natsu to the point she was willing to jump off a tower because she knew he would be able to catch her. 

Natsu comforted Lucy and assure that she belongs in Fairy Tail when she was upset over Phantom Lord attacking FT. 

Natsu uprooted a whole freaking tree because he felt bad that she was going to miss the Hanami festival since she was sick. 

Natsu believed in Lucy’s strength and wasn’t surprised when she won her fight against Bickslow even though Gajeel was surprised and questioning her victory.  

In the Edolas arc, Natsu wanted to get a gift for Lucy. 

Lucy would rather almost get killed then leave Natsu by himself in a fight because “it’s always more fun when they are together”.  

When Lucy’s father died, Natsu was about to yell at the girls who were complaining about their father since he knew it would hurt Lucy until she stopped him. Then, he quickly composed himself and comforted her when she was feeling guilty over not being able to cry. 

When Lucy was crying since she lost her fight against Flare and was humiliated as well, Natsu was the only one to come up to her and let her know that she did great and that he still had hope that they would be able to win.    

Natsu had to be tied up when Lucy was arrested by the royal guards because he desperately wanted to save her. 

Speaking of saving, Natsu and Lucy mutually protect each other and prioritize saving each other over their own safety. 

Natsu absolutely hates seeing Lucy cry. 

Natsu comforted future!Lucy and thanked her for trying to save their future.   

Natsu was devastated over future!Lucy’s death, and it was his driving force during his fight with future!Rogue.  

Natsu said that Lucy is precious to him. 

Lucy sensed that future!Lucy finally reunited with her friends and family and hugged Natsu to thank him. 

While Natsu was upset that the guild disbanded, he didn’t plan to bring the guild back together until he saw how much Lucy missed everyone. 

Natsu, Lucy, and Happy chose to spend their last day together before the war started. 

When Natsu was in a coma, Lucy spent most of her time in the infirmary by his side. 

Lucy was willing to fight Brandish even though she truly didn’t want to because she was going to protect Natsu no matter what. 

Natsu turned into E.N.D because he thought Lucy was dead. 

Lucy was willing to put aside her embarrassment and strip her clothes in order to raise Natsu’s body temperature. 

Lucy used her intelligence to re-write the book of E.N.D in order to prevent Natsu from dying. 

Even though he gets flustered around Lucy when she is drunk, Natsu still fulfills her wishes.  

Does this seem like a unhealthy friendship? No, right? You don’t have to ship Natsu and Lucy together, but you can’t call their relationship “abusive” or “unhealthy” because of scenes that are meant to be comic relief and are common in animanga in general. No relationship is perfect after all, but the flaws are minor compared to everything else.

“Welcome Home”

Alright guys. Here’s the BIG one. The one where my Nalu shipper heart just dies,  and not during one of the super angsty scenes.

In chapter 437, Natsu and Lucy are finally back in Magnolia for the first time since the guild disbanded after Tartaros. It’s the first time they are together in their home town since he left, and she felt abandoned. She was so scared of going back because she thought Fairy Tail, she thought her family, would no longer be there.

But when she sees all of her nakama again, waiting for them, she becomes emotional.

Mirajane says “Welcome Home”, and Lucy is overwhelmed.

In response, she say “I’m back”.

She’s back in Magnolia, back with Fairy Tail, back with her friends, her family, and everyone who has ever mattered before. Cana, the Strausses, Juvia, Gray, Levy….Natsu…

And it’s not a romantic moment, but a heartfelt one.

And then.

And then in chapter 544, the penultimate chapter of the manga, we see the same words repeated once more. Except this time, the roles are reversed.

Instead of being back home in Magnolia, they are all in Hargeon - the place where it ALL started - this amazing adventure and the friendship that means everything.

Natsu comes crashing down from the sky, and lands straight down on Happy and Lucy.

We were so afraid we would lose him. That the dragon slayers were gone for good. That END had taken over Natsu entirely, and there would be no return. 

But there he was, smiling down at her.

“I’m home.” He says to her, and she beams in response.

“Welcome Home.” She replies, because that’s all she can say. What else is there? So what if they aren’t in Magnolia? What matters is he’s here, and she’s there and home has always been where the heart is.

Besides, it’s always better when they’re together.
