A recent wonderful BNHA fandom trope I’ve seen is people giving Hawks extra bird like traits. Talons/Nictitating Membranes/Nesting & Roosting Instincts/etc. All of them are great, but as someone who works with raptors, I would like to introduce you to a lesser known raptor trait: The Stress Grip.

Basically, raptors by and large have really powerful feet/talons. When they are stressed out/highly stimulated, they will attempt to grab/kill things with those talons. The problem is that raptors cannot relax their grip when they are stressed out/highly stimulated. They hold on to whatever they are grabbing until they get less stimulated/calm down enough to let go. Until then, whatever they’ve grabbed onto is theirs and good fucking luck getting it back.

Applying this to Hawks, when he gets really stressed out/really excited/super high stimulus, and something moves in his line of sight/touches him, he’ll latch onto whatever it is and he physically cannot let go until he calms down. Doesn’t matter what it is, doesn’t matter if he wants to hold onto it or not. He cannot let go.

Sometimes, this is handy:

Grabbing people when they’re falling.

Catching things thrown at him

It’s really hard for people to wrestle things out of his hands once he has them.

Othertimes, this is The Absolute Worst:

Someone throws a Dangerous Object at him, and he catches it without thinking.

Dabi thought it’d be funny to sneak up on him. Now Hawks has a death grip on him and Cannot Let Go and also someone is about to come in the room.

Hawks gets too excited about something and just fucking latches onto the person next to him with no warning/regard for who that person is

He can pretty much only watch horror movies with Miruko because he needs someone who doesn’t mind him death griping them the entire movie.

Hawks was in the LOV base at like 3 AM, tired and stressed out, and Tomura wasn’t trying to sneak up on him, but oops. Now Hawks is latched onto the leader of the LOV who could kill him in a moment, which is making him panic more, which means he can’t let go. Guess this is something they have to deal with now.

Hiya! If its not too spoilery, may i ask how Bakugo felt or reacted to finding out about Izuku being raised by villains?

Ah, Bakugou never, exactly, like, found out because someone told him but rather over time, eveasdropping and drawing conclusions. That’s why his reaction is very muted in direct comparrison to anything else.

He wasn’t an idiot, he knew that something must have happened to Izuku and stopped him from going back home to Inko (the scar and his behavior the most obvious indicators). But Izuku never outright told Bakugou until after the kidnapping-arch. It is more like Bakugou had his suspicions after the USJ (he saw and heard how Izuku talked to Shigaraki) and then he listened to the ‘villain child’-rumors floating around school and Inko became weirdly hinty with stuff.

Bakugou cornered Izuku a few times, trying to force the story out of him by confronting him with aducated guesses - but it never worked. Izuku just evaded, hid or fought with him until Aizawa had to break them up - usually with dissapointed resignation.

But then Bakugou got kidnapped and met Shigaraki up close. After Shigaraki tried to win Bakugou for the villains and failing, Bakugou heard him talking about his little brother and felt hot protective fury burn through him at being proven right. That Izuku must have been here, intstead of with Inko, living with these assholes. He can guess from whom he got the scar, even some mannerism are similar - Izuku has lived with them. For a while.

And when Izuku came to safe him, knowing the ins and outs of the hideout, almost making it out, only to be teleported to the big fight between All Might and AFO... how AFO noticed them, gently called for his child to come back, you had your fun, time to listen to your father-

It’s one of the reasons why Bakugou is so protective afterwards.

He was never really mindful of Izukus touch-thing but after that he gets aggressively aware of it and has trouble controlling himself without seeming to pity Izuku. Because he doesn’t. Instead he grabs Izukus wrist to take the marker out of his hand and stuff something to eat in it, janks his shirt harshly to stop him from walking into something, shoulders him out of the way to stand between him and someone unfamiliar, rubs with a towel over his gross face after training and straigthens his dumb red tie every god-damn morning. Also, he’s ready to fight any second of the day so they can beat the shit out of each other.

He hates it when Izuku scratches his cheek like Shigaraki did his throat and dropkicks him when he calls himself anything remotely villain-related or refers to AFO as his father.

But at the same time he starts cooking with him - not teaching, he’s not his babysitter - and drills catch-up-school-stuff into his head (usually in a one-on-one study session because the idiot-squad is too distracting and Izuku likes distractions. Aizawa isn’t too happy with that but Bakugou is one of the smartest students he has so he can’t really opose to the turoring - mainly because any amount of time between them escalades in a fight one way or another. Inko on the other hand is happy about how good they get along, being generally suportive and encuraging.

(Kaminari once called him a cute Big-Baku-Bro and almost lost his black lightningbolt-stripe to the explosions. Aizawa walked into a room full of flames, Sero and Kaminari lying on the floor and Izuku confusely holding Bakugou at bay with a chair, proclaiming that he was innocent and had no idea what was going on he just wanted a glass of water.
