Chan’s room was dim and quiet, lit only by the soft spill of hallway light. They moved instinctively, the three of them drifting toward the neatly made bed like a tide.
Chan paused, eyes flicking between them. “I’ve never done anything like this before.”
“Neither have we,” Felix said.
“But we want this,” Hyunjin added. He stepped close again, chest brushing Chan’s. “We want you .”
Chan swallowed hard then reached out, fingers curling around the back of Hyunjin’s head. “I’m already yours.”
Hyunjin leaned in and kissed him, fierce and reverent. Felix came up behind Chan, his hands sliding over Chan’s hips, his mouth finding the curve of his neck. Chan groaned low, head tipping back, offering his throat like a gift.
Hyunjin kissed along Chan’s jaw, nipping at his earlobe. “Still okay?” he murmured.
“Still yes,” Chan whispered, and Hyunjin leaned in to kiss the corner of his mouth.
“Let us make you feel good,” Felix whispered, moving around in front of Chan and pushing his chest gently to make him sit.

Felix tilted his head. “I mean, it is your birthday. You could ask for an extra gift from each of us.”
Hyunjin’s eyes gleamed as he caught Felix's cheeky twinkle. He played along, tilting his head in unison. “Hmm, what could you ask for, I wonder? Maybe…a kiss?”
Chan flushed a deeper shade of pink. “You’re both unreal.”
“That wasn’t a no,” Felix said, moving closer so that he was tucked against Chan's side, still holding his hand.
Chan let out a breath, then lifted his chin and met both their gazes in turn; Hyunjin shivered at the blossoming boldness he saw there.
“Okay, yeah. I want a kiss,” Chan said, swallowing. “From both of you.”
The air seemed to shimmer. Hyunjin moved first, slow and deliberate, brushing his fingers along Chan’s jaw to tilt his face up. “Happy birthday,” he whispered, and then pressed their mouths together.

Chan opened the door, flicking the light switch. The room was small, just a few paces in each direction, but the walls were painted a gentle grey-blue that made the space feel calm and light. An easel stood in the corner with a stack of blank canvases propped up behind it, an adjustable stool to the side. A small wooden desk stood against the wall, alongside a shelving unit and drying rack. The windowsill held several small houseplants, a colourful jumble of hand-painted pots and gleaming green leaves.
Hyunjin stepped inside slowly, almost reverently. “You did this for me,” he said, awestruck, turning in a slow circle.
Chan leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed loosely over his chest. “I wanted to give you space to be creative again, without worrying about cleaning up or where your stuff should go, or…anything, really.”
Hyunjin said nothing, moving across to the desk, fingertips brushing over the varnished wood.
“I hope you like the colour on the walls.” Chan rubbed the back of his neck, looking almost sheepish. “I thought blue might feel calm. But if you don’t like it, we can change it.”
“No,” Hyunjin said quickly. “It’s perfect.” He crossed to the easel, adjusting it slightly towards the window.
Chan gave a little nod, then glanced around the room. “It still needs some work. I want to put in better lighting, and the floorboards could do with sanding and varnishing. And I thought maybe, if you wanted, we could hang some of your older pieces on the walls.”
Hyunjin looked back at Chan, still standing in the doorway with that gentle, almost anxious expression he wore when he felt too much and didn’t know what to do with it.
Fondness rose in Hyunjin’s throat, thick and impossible to swallow. He crossed the space in a few quick steps and threw his arms around Chan’s neck, burying his face in the soft cotton of his sweatshirt. Chan stiffened for half a breath before melting into the hug, his arms folding around Hyunjin’s waist.

Felix sighed. “You’re right, I do like Chan-hyung; but you’ve been my best friend since forever, and sometimes when you touch me, or kiss me, it makes me want - ” He broke off and took a shuddering breath.
Hyunjin shifted, his forehead brushing Felix’s chin. “I know that feeling. You’ve always been there for me, I don’t know who I am without you. I don’t want to mess that up.”
Felix’s fingers laced through his, the kind of touch that asked nothing but offered everything. “You couldn’t. Not ever.”
They were quiet for a beat, just breathing in the same space.
“I guess I’m scared,” Hyunjin admitted. “That if Chan-hyung ends up choosing one of us, it’ll ruin what we have.”
“Yeah,” Felix whispered. “Me too. But I think whatever happens, we’ll still have each other. I need you in my life, Jinnie-ya. That won’t change.”
They lay there in the silence, arms looped and legs entwined. This kind of closeness had always been theirs, but something about it was different now; more tender, finely charged.
“I don’t want him to have to choose,” Hyunjin murmured. “Is that terrible?”
“...No, I don’t think so. Not if we’re all feeling the same thing.”
“Do you think he would want that?”
“I think,” Felix said carefully, “that if one of us had taken the leap tonight…he would’ve caught us.”
Hyunjin leaned up on one elbow, brushing a lock of hair off Felix’s face. His thumb grazed the curve of his cheek, and Felix leaned into it without thinking. There was a pause, long enough for the moment to settle, and then Felix’s hand came up to rest lightly against Hyunjin’s jaw.

It was the day of his interview at the design department of Chan’s company, and Hyunjin was doing his very best not to freak out.
The kitchen was suffused with early morning sunlight and the rich smell of coffee. Hyunjin stood by the window, clutching his mug in both hands. “Is it really a good idea to be caffeinating my anxiety?” he wondered out loud.
“Absolutely,” Felix said immediately. He was perched cross-legged on one of the dining chairs, slicing strawberries into a bowl of yogurt. “You’re going to be nervous either way; at least now you’ll be nervous and speedy.”
Chan strode in, dressed in black jeans and a black rollneck sweater that clung deliciously to his broad chest. “Morning,” he said with a sunny smile, heading over to the coffee machine. He glanced up at Hyunjin as he poured himself a cup. “Nervous about the interview?”
Hyunjin made a sound that was somewhere between a laugh and a groan. “ Obviously .”
“He’s been vibrating since he got up,” Felix added, taking a bite of his breakfast. “You should’ve seen him trying to do his skincare, I thought he was gonna poke his own eye out.”
“Traitor,” Hyunjin said, blushing and smiling at the same time.
Chan chuckled. “You’re gonna be fine, honestly. It’s for a temp role so it’s low stakes anyway, but you’re more than capable of doing the role. You’ll show up, charm the pants off them and bam, you’re in.”
Hyunjin’s smile faltered slightly. “I appreciate your faith in me, but... I haven’t done anything like this in a while. What if I get in there and freeze? Or fall out of my chair? Or say something ridiculous?”
Chan moved closer and dropped a comforting hand on Hyunjin’s shoulder. “Please don’t worry so much. The team’s pretty chill, and I wouldn’t have told you about it if I didn’t think you could do it.”
Felix piped up, “Also, Chan-hyung is the executives’ favourite producer so if it all goes wrong, he can just deploy the dimples.”
“Exactly,” Chan said with a wink. “Nepotism, baby. You’ve got connections now.”
That made Hyunjin snort, the tension breaking just a little. “You two are idiots.”
Felix beamed up at him. “Yeah, but we’re your idiots.”

Chapter 3 of 'Endings and Beginnings' is now up on A03
The movie started, some dumb-looking comedy Hyunjin hadn’t intended to watch. He offered Felix the bag he’d brought, bottles clattering as Felix chose the polish he wanted. Then he lifted Felix’s hand to rest on his thigh and began to carefully paint each perfect little nail in a bright sapphire blue. Chan leaned a little closer, watching as Hyunjin started on the other hand.
“You’re good at that, your hands are really steady,” he murmured. “It’s a pretty colour, Lix-ah, it suits you.”
“Thanks, hyung,” Felix smiled, sweet with sleepiness already. “You should let Jinnie-ya do yours too.”
“Oh, I don’t know if - “ Chan began.
“Choose one,” Hyunjin interrupted, dropping the bag on his lap before continuing with Felix. A flare of something hot and sharp roared up as he saw Chan’s blush, felt the rush as Chan obeyed. He wanted to give him more commands, to watch him fall in line.
When Felix was done and snuggled up against Hyunjin’s side, Chan held out a bottle of black polish.
“Bold choice,” Hyunjin said, smiling.
“I never had a goth phase, I figured it’s time to start.”
Hyunjin laughed, delighted. “You would make a very hot goth, just saying.” He affected a shiver to cover up how much the mental image actually affected him.
“You should let us give you a goth makeover, hyung,” Felix yawned. “That would be amazing.”
“C’mon, hyung - your turn,” Hyunjin said, turning his own hand palm upwards expectantly.
Chan rested a hand in his grasp, and for a moment Hyunjin got lost in running light fingertips over the veins and knuckles. “You have great hands, hyung. I’d love to sketch them sometime.”
“Me? Really?” Chan asked, redness creeping further up his throat. “I’ve always thought they were kind of ugly. I mean, they’re so bumpy and veiny - that’s not attractive, right?”
Hyunjin and Felix fixed him with identical looks, eyebrows raised and heads tilted.
“You’re kidding, I assume?” Hyunjin said.
“N...no…?” Chan said hesitantly.
“It’s extremely attractive,” Hyunjin said flatly.
“ Extremely ,” Felix added. “I’ve always thought so.”
Chan looked like he’d been hit by a bus, and Hyunjin could see he was struggling to process the new information. Twisting the lid off the bottle, he said breezily, “Okay, keep still,” and began to paint Chan’s thumbnail.
