I wanted to shed some light on a dark history of the Residential School Era that stills triggers many to this day but almost never spoken. I believe it may also carry onto the next generation as it has only been a little while ago since these things happened to many during the Residential School Era. 1900-1976, It follows for many during the Autumn months when Sadness would engulf them from past traumas left behind. Memories when Children were taken by force from Parents by these Churches that ran Residential Schools. This was done by Laws designed for the children and parents alike or face Punishment by the Authorities. Most of the abductions by thes Churches would happen in the Autumn months as Residential Schools all over the Nation were running to suppress Indian Culture by snatching these aboriginal kids as option for admission is ludicrous. I’m sure your thinking? Why August, I’m assuming because it was the starting of a new school year and past students were returning from roughly 2 months of summer break or non at all. I wanted to bring to light that for many Indigenous Families, Autumn sets off, a series of hidden memories from that time period, that triggers them into instant sadness and grief. Less and less of those those Parents and those Children, are feeling this way as many have passed on holding onto to these memory of hidden and suppressed memories. I’m sure Laws were designed for them to remain quiet or face punishment by them. Who them? Authorities. I would suggest that the Education System include testimony from this time period and era so that a real concrete solution can be worked out for those last remaining Elders be honoured for there personal sacrifices that was made during that time. I’m sure if the National Inquiry on Aboriginal Peoples be made open for discussion in the Class Rooms across Canada and some of the remedies suggested, would be a start. Implementation most of what was said is another story. The Residential School Inquiry should also be made into Critical reading subject material, to help understand history. I thank you for help by helping me by reading this Blog about, shedding light, to a subject that was almost swept under the rug but most needing closer. Aho.. Healing has many ways. Maybe by actually honouring our last remaining survivors by acknowledging there story was my thought going into this subject. Months of August. Good title
