Boa Constrictor Reclassification
Diem Marie - The Boa Gene Project
Forgot I made this, don’t think I’ve posted it here.
This is all relevant for now, but Boa constrictor imperator is actually Boa imperator now and other reclassification are going to occur over the next decade or so. It’ll probably be a slow transition to the industry accepting the reclassifications.

A listing of the sub-species belonging to the Boa Genus; scientific name and abbreviation is given along with accepted regional and “common” names.

Not a ball python, but I still think this little baby is really important. I know I said I’m a strict ball python blog. I know. I usually am. But I thought this was very important. This little leopard gecko is at a local Petco. And as you can see, not in good shape. I have never wanted to rescue an animal and take it home so bad in my life. As someone who would love to own leopard geckos in the future, it sickens me to see them so disheveled. I had just bought a little “Beware of Python” sign at LLL, and after telling the clerk it was my turn to buy stupid things and not Kabuki, as he and his setup cost around $600, the clerk replied, “We need more reptile parents like you.” “More reptile parents like you.” Yes. We need more people to actually take care of their animals. People don’t see reptile abuse as blatantly as mammal abuse. A bad shed is like mange. A thin gecko tail is like the jutting ribs and spine. A gecko that can’t open its eyes is an animal that needs help. And on sand?! I understand there’s the “Not All Petstores”, but this one is in the stereotype. I told two employees, who got the manager. He said, “He’s not as sick as I’d like. We’ll give him some mealworms to fatten him because they beat up on each other (right, yeah, that’s why they’re not supposed to be cohabited). It’s just a rough shed. Nothing to worry about.” Nothing to worry about. These animals are not meant to be treated this way. I don’t know what makes people dismiss reptiles as soulless or lacking of personality or whatever it is that makes it okay to do this to them. This is abuse. This is as bad as the dogs and cats we see on the ASPCA commercials. What makes this okay? I don’t understand why reptiles’ lives are so dismissible.
