Melo is headed to H-Town
Tumblr media
If you haven't heard by now, former OKC Forward and 10x All-Star Carmelo Anthony has officially committed to the Houston Rockets. The real question is how well does he fit?
Melo, who is a 28 points and 8 boards a night type player when he's at his best will be teaming up with the league's MVP James Harden and one of the NBA's most consistant point guards, Chris Paul. Hoodie Melo does bring his gifted scoring to be in the mix with the NBA's fastest team. Many former players like Paul Pierce have been quoted by he is one of the hardest players to gaurd. Stating "If I had to single one guy out who is the most difficult player to guard in the league, it would have to be Carmelo. He’s a unique blend of being big, strong, and athletic while also having a world-class shooting touch and a natural ability to get to the rim. That’s what sets him apart — every facet of his game is elite."
Coming off his worst year where he averaged 16.2 PPG, this will be a make or break year for Melo. He does bring prolific scoring but, he also plays lazy defense from what we seen on the past. He's considered a volume shooter. The more he shoots the hotter he gets which can be good and bad because if he's on than he's on fire, but if he's off he can put your team way behind.
To answer to my own question from earlier, yes I believe he can fit. It's up to him to hustle and play defence to contribute to this high volume Rockets team who almost sent the reigning champs home in the finals. He most bring that great scoring that he's known for but not be lazy if he wants to fill that hole Trevor Ariza, two way play, left. This will be his year to show that he's still Melo.

No, No for Julio
Tumblr media
As training camp season approaches and a new NFL season comes, you hear about this thing called...holdouts. in this round of hold outs, Falcons star Receiver Julio Jones is deciding sit out training camp due to a contract situation. Jones is set to make $10.5 million this season. After hearing the news with Brandin Cooks' five-year, $80 million extension, which does make him one of the highest paid receivers in the league, Julio and the Faclons front office are now in a battle. A battle in which the Falcons aren't backing down from and standing strong about not giving The star wide out an extention.
For Julio this could mean he may sit out a few games. But are the Falcons prepared for that? On a team where the next best reciever option is Mohamed Sanu who's numbers includes 67 Receptions for 703 yards and 5 TDs to Julio's 88 reception for 1444 yards for a low 3 TDs, are they ready to let Julio sit and Sanu carry the work load with a Devonte Freeman? I think they can manage but not as much they have the potential to be. Matty Ice is at the Helm as well. As for Julio, this can mean time and production missed.
The ball is in Julio's court on rather he decides to come to camp or not. I do believe the will reach an agreement to satisfy the star Receiver.

Pop'd the Kawhi bubble
Tumblr media
If you haven't heard by now the great Kawhi Leonard is headed to the "6" for a young, killer in Demar DeRozen. The trade includes Forward Kawhi Leonard and Gaurd/Forward Danny Green to the Raptors for Shooting Gaurd DeMar DeRozan, Center Jacob Poeltl and a First round pick from the 2019 NBA draft (1-20 protected).
Some may say both teams are winners in this trade. Toronto just acquired one of the league's elite players when he's healthy and the Spurs just got them selves an elite Shooting Guard in DeMar. But the question is who's the real winner?
My answer, Gregg Popovich.
Pop got rid of a guy that didn't want to play for him anymore. He flipped his best player for another top 10 player in this league. In a year where we saw LeBron come west and Boogie come to the dominant warriors, we see Pop do what he does best and that's show that the Spurs will always be his team.
On another note, both teams did become much better. Both have playoffs written all over them. That's if Kawhi swollows is pride and plays. The reports of him having no intentions of playing in the 6. We shall see what else this crazy off season brings us.
