One of my pet peeves in this fandom is the way the fandom acts like wei wuxian was raising a-yuan, not in fanfic (though there too depending on how it's done), but when they actually wholeheartedly believe this and use this in meta etc... They call wwx his dad/ father figure as if he didn't have a whole family with him who helped take care of him. Granny, Wen Qing etc would be the ones raising Wen Yuan (you know, the *women* who esp in a setting like that would likely be the ones in charge of child rearing?). Wei Wuxian was like the fun elder brother that played with him on occasion

This is what he was doing... playing. This does not a dad make. And he calls wwx brother - likely gege, he doesn't see wwx as his dad.

He did cry for his dad while in front of lwj, but he had literally been scared and lost after being separated from wwx... actually i kind of wonder what his real dad looks like bcuz 👀.. but uh while people around interpreted this as a-yuan calling lwj his dad, I actually saw it more as he was lost and scared and called out for his dad instinctively bcuz that's what little kids do, they want their parents when they're afraid...i also don't think he was calling lwj dad despite what wwx teased, bcuz of the simple fact that lwj scared him.. he was crying *for* his dad

This is heartbreaking honestly. A-Yuan wanted his dad and cried for him, yet his dad was no longer around.

I think a lot of people use him as a prop for wangxian's 'happy family' and they ignore that this child had a family and lost them. They use him and his lost family as mostly two things 1) a bludgeon to criticise the chars they hate like jc (ignoring how much a-yuan's life resembles both jc and jl's to an extent) and 2) to make wangxian seem like a complete family bcuz of course they need to have a child to make them a 'real' family right?

((Uh also, I have *thoughts* about how Lan Wangji literally gave Wen Yuan the name Lan *Sizhui* which was essentially him pining over losing wwx as it means something to the effect of to yearn for... lsz didn't get a name for himself (neither did jl bcuz wwx kinda hinted to lwj with the name he gave him...). I feel it was a really uncool thing to do on his part. This ended up being an homage to his dead crush which.. not a cool thing to do to a child when that's now his name...

There are so many other ways he could have honored and remembered wwx other than giving the kid a name that had nothing to do with him or his hopes for lsz in the future but rather bcuz 'wwx is dead and i am sad and pining for him and wy is the representation of what wwx wanted to protect so i'm just gonna name him yearning bcuz i yearn for wwx who can never come back'... This isn't romantic, it's just sad for all involved))

I kind of rambled a bit there but, point is, wwx was the fun brother not the responsible dad. He loved to tease wen yuan. He also got scolded a lot by wen qing for playing around and fooling a-yuan.

Aside from playing with a-yuan when he was free, he was holed up in his cave or running around. He certainly wasn't doing parenting.

And lwj took in lsz it's true, but it was mostly for wwx's sake cuz lsz was all that was left of wwx. Sure maybe he'd have helped anyway if he found a sick kid that wasn't connected to wwx, but the only reason he treated lsz specially was because of wwx. It's incredibly annoying to me therefore when people act like its canon that they are his dads, and before anyone jumps on to the post to say 'oh nobody believes this blah blah and how they've never seen it before' well buddy, bcuz YOU haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I *have* seen it... many, many, mannyyy times... stated with all confidence that they are his dads in relation to posts about canon

Though of course there are also fanfics where u can tell the author actually believes this to be canon as well.

Wen Yuan had a whole family and lost them, yet fandom makes him out to be wangxian's kid so it's okay right? He lost them for a good cause apparently (going 'travelling' on night hunts with them together and having to be put in awkward positions and apologise to the client for them bcuz wwx wakes up late and they spent the night on 'everyday'.. peak kid energy for real) (this is sarcasm...a little).

Also uh wwx died in his early twenties, by the time he meets lsz they're probably like 6 years apart at most.. lsz def isn't going to be seeing him as a dad figure... and if he taught lsz anything it was this:

So.. yeah... big brother wwx was fun but not parent material.
