Do you think that in the Descendants universe Villany and Queerness were kinda linked in the eyes of the people like they are in old stories irl (think: Alternative and Queer people used to fall in with villains because general society didn't except them, so they doubled down and just began working for Villains, who honestly couldn't care less because they just wanted people who hated the Heroes and didn't worry about the reason), so when the Isle was created it became a fairly Queer-Friendly place while Auradon kind-of halted (like there was SOME progress, people didn't think you were evil anymore, but it was still a taboo), and Mal, Evie and Carlos were the first Openly Queer people Ben ever met (Because Chad, Audrey and Jane and others were all still closeted).

And with more and more Villains joining Auradon, more and more of Auradon was exposed to Queerress, allowing people to discover themselves and come out, and gay marriage was legalised and all that.

And by 2024 - 2026 (the vague time Rise of Red takes place in) it's already super open, so Chloe can just kinda Be Gay with Red without most people worrying about it (though the girlies probably got called a slur by Uliana's crew - who are Queer Allies (there's more Gays than Not) but yk they would target that).
