matthew: a day after we got back from hawaii i got a call from my mom telling me that dad was in the hospital and that i needed to come home

matthew: u know he and i have never had a great relationship but hes my dad i couldnt just not go. i was gonna call u before i boarded the plane but my phone died and after that it all just happened so fast

matthew: turns out my dad was diagnosed with early onset alzheimers. he had been having memory lapses, forgetting familiar words and having trouble at work

⎛ TIME SKIP ⎞they hadn’t been intimate in a long time, since before he left, and although that may seem like a bad thing to most people, it had been oddly fine with mariana. the only important thing to her was that she was making him happy the way he made her, and she felt like they were finally back in that place. she couldn’t deny how much she loved making love to him, it was different than with anyone else she’d ever been with. “that was.. perfect. as always,” she smiled, leaning forward to peck his lips as she slid his t shirt over her naked body. 

it was everything he knew it would be and more. somehow the wait added another element that made it all the more meaningful, and only solidified the fact that they were taking the right steps. once she had put on his shirt, he tugged her back down to the bed, “come back here,” he mumbled as he gave her a long kiss. “god, i love you so much, i can’t believe we waited that long,” he confessed, his lips trailing for her cheeks to her neck. she hadn’t been his first, but he had a feeling she would be his last. being with her was unlike anything he could ever experience with anyone else.

the girl leaned forward to press a soft kiss to his lips, before resting her hands on his torso. “i know you were, babe,” she smiled, kissing him again. “whatever you wanna do is fine with me, i’m just happy to have you here,” mari told him, remember the way she felt when he was gone and never wanting to feel that again. “that you’re real,” she smirked, placing her thumb on his bottom lip before kissing him one more time. 

with her lips on his and the feeling of her body against his, it was all too tempting to pass out on. they could still take it slow but he figured it was the right time to take the next step, even though it was towards something they had done plenty of times before. he rested a hand on her cheek, his thumb grazing her cheekbone affectionately. “i love you,” his words were spoken softly, almost to a whisper as he leaned in to kiss her, his lips moving softly over hers.

mariana laughed at his words. “oh, yeah, it’s been incredibly hard on me, i don’t know how i’ve managed, honestly,” she teased back, sitting down on the couch. “i couldn’t agree more, holding hands is all we need,” the brunette agreed before another laugh slipped past her lips. she watched her boyfriend as he joined her on the couch, fiddling with the rose petals in her hands, focusing on the unbelievably silky texture of them. when he covered his mouth, mariana chuckled again before moving closer to him, eventually lifting herself onto his lap. “maybe we can break this rule just once, for valentine’s,” she suggested, resting her hands on his shoulders. 

he wasn’t going to pretend that he didn’t miss being intimiate with her since it’s it plays such a big part in any relationship. however, they were both focused on the bigger picture so as long as he remembered that he could hold on for as long as he needed to. yet, with her on his lap and willing to take such a step forward, it was incredibly tempting to just lose control. he placed his hands on her thighs and he titled his head slightly, “are you sure?” he asked, wanting to make sure it was something they were both in agreement on. “i was just messing around before, i’m fine with what we’ve been doing so we can wait a little longer.”

“thanks, baby, this is so sweet,” she responded, almost taken aback by his words. “oh my god, you’re so perfect,” mari teased when he explained his plan for the evening and she pressed another kiss to his lips before giggling lightly when he pecked her cheeks. “hm, keep this up and you just might get that lucky,” the brunette teased with another laugh. agreeing for the two of them to take things slow was something that was really important to mariana, they had started with sex every other time, and she wanted this time to be right. she had hoped this would be a way for them to have a fresh start, to get to know each other better before they just drowned themselves in the lust they felt for each other. mariana smelled the bouquet of flowers for a moment to appreciate the effort he went into to picking them before looking back up at him, one hand running through his hair. “thank you.. for all of this, and for being so patient with me, i really appreciate it.” mariana stepped back and placed the flowers neatly on the coffee table as she walked over to the couch, picking up some of the petals he left with the smile never leaving her face. 

he had noticed a change in them that gave him up for the future. they were much more mature than before and that was due to everything they had been through. it made them stronger despite how many times they felt like given up and even when they did. “i mean, all the credit goes to you considering how irresistible i am,” he teased, a smirk on his lips as he followed her to the couch. “me, on the other hand, am perfectly fine, like i think we should just stick to only holding hands forever.” he said, trying his best to keep a straight face as he took a seat next to her, keeping his arms crossed over his chest. he glanced at her briefly as he brought his hand to cover his lips, covering his smile.
