It was definitely a tough blow for them, Andy! The Portuguese Cup is always a special competition and was one of their targets for the season, looking for another presence in the European competitions next season. Coach Ivo Vieira said “everyone in the team had to take responsibilities for that defeat” and admitted “their behavior on the field was frustrating”. A good result today would certainly be perfect to ease the pressure off after that poor result…

Last Saturday Vitória SC was eliminated from the Portuguese Cup in the third round by third tier Sintra Football, beaten on penalties after a 1-1 draw. A surprising result, especially if you look at what the Guimarães side had been showing in domestic competitions so far this season. They are currently 4th in the Portuguese League, with only one defeat after seven games, and they had recently earned a decent away draw against SL Benfica in the start of the Portuguese League group stage.
