Jim & Pier
The Story (short and sweet): James Dean met Pier Angeli on the Warner Brothers lot in 1954 while he was filming East of Eden and she was working on The Silver Chalice. They were so incredibly involved in each others lives from the very start -visiting each other’s set, spending off time together, etc. Everyone could see how much in love they were, even (and unfortunately…) Pier’s mother who completely disapproved of their romance. He was, after all, not Catholic, and she had already vigorously disapproved of Piers relationship with Kirk Douglas just months prior. Regardless, James and Pier snuck around and saw each other as much as possible. Pier’s mother found out about their secret meetings so she complained to Jack Warner (of Warner Brothers), had her phone number changed, and did whatever else to separate the two. Of course, regardless of her efforts to keep them apart, Jimmy and Pier continued to see each other. The tension caused by Pier’s mother’s disapproval continued to escalate. Kazan, who moved into the trailer next door to Jimmy’s to keep tabs on him, claimed that even though he could sometimes hear them making love, he more often heard them arguing. Some say that Jimmy had a habit of mishandling girlfriends (especially after a few drinks) when in a heated argument, though that has never been confirmed. However, somewhere along the line Pier’s mother let off and they began to date and attend public events together. Jimmy made a trip back to New York to work on a TV show, which is when their relationship seemed to make the dramatic turn. Their arguing continued, they dated other people while away, and love seemed to fade. Pier met Vic Damone once again (they had met previously in Italy in 1952), and a relationship blossomed. The night before the announcement, Pier contacted Jimmy and told him she was engaged to Damone. He was clearly devastated, but it was already done. November 24, 1954, Pier Angeli married Vic Damone. Rumor has it that Jimmy waited outside the church, and once Pier and Vic exited for pictures, he roared up his motorcycle and raced off.
For months afterward, Jimmy and Pier kept in contact. He missed her terribly, bringing her up in many conversations with friends, and continued to try and keep in contact with her. She came to his house and informed him that she had become pregnant just a few months prior, which, for a while, he had claimed was his own doing. Jimmy tried to get over Pier by dating others (such as Lili Kardell and Ursula Andress), but close friends say he never really got over her. Pier gave birth to her son Perry just 10 months after Vic Damone proposed to her. She divorced Damone just 4 years later. She married again, but that marriage only lasted 7 years.
On September 10, 1971, at age 39, Pier Angeli died in her home of a barbiturate overdose. In a letter to a friend just before her death, Pier said “…My love died at the wheel of a Porsche. It’s now been 17 years that I’ve been lonely, desperately lonely. I want to find peace and be free and finally be with my father and Jimmy again.”
I believe that James Dean truley loved Pier Angeli, and she in return. Their affair was short, but incredibly emotional and involved. She had issues of her own, as did he, but he clearly felt she understood and loved him unconditionally. I think their love was slightly toxic, but there is no doubt that it was strong and very real! They were beautiful, in love, and should have had babies. Here’s to a couple that was truely in love! I only hope they are together now.

Happy Valentines Day.

Complete transcripts of the Taylor Kanye phone call
K: You still got the Nashville number?
T: I still have the Nashville area code but I had to change–
(next)
K: All my southside n****** that know me best, I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex.
(cut)
T: Yeah, it’s all for exposure (approximately what she said)
K: Well, this one is, I think this is a really cool thing to have
(cut)
T: I know, it’s like a compliment…(inaudible, giggling)
(cut)
K: What I give a fuck about is just you as a person and as a friend, I want things that make–
T: (inaudible)
K: –you feel good but I don’t wanna do rap that makes people feel–
(cut)
T: Yeah, go with whatever line makes you feel better, it’s obviously very tongue-in-cheek either way.
(cut)
T: And I really appreciate you telling me about it, that’s really nice.
K: Oh, yeah, I just have a responsibility to you as a friend, you know, and I mean, thanks–
(cut)
K: Thanks for being so cool about it.
T: Aw thanks, Yeah, I really appreciate it. The heads up is so nice.
(cut)
T: Thanks for asking about it, I really appreciate it. You know, I never would’ve expected you to, like, tell me about a line in your songs.
(cut)
T: And the flowers you sent me! I instagrammed a picture them and it’s like, the most Instagram likes I’ve ever gotten, it was like 2.7–
(cut)
K: Relationships are more important than punchlines
(cut)
T: Yeah, I mean, I don’t think anybody would listen to it and be like, (inaudible), she must be crying.
(cut)
T: Like, you gotta tell the story the way that it happened to you and the way you experienced it. You didn’t know who I was before that.
(cut)
T: It doesn’t matter that I sold 7 million of an album before you did that, which is what happened. You didn’t know who I was before that! And it’s fine.
(cut)
T: (inaudible) make these things happen, and I get the idea to do that, I create these things and concepts, and I’m always gonna respect you.
(cut)
T: And I’m really glad you had the respect to call me and tell me that as friends, that song, and–
(cut)
T: It’s a really cool thing to do and it’s a really good show of friendship, so thank you.
K: Thank you, too.
(cut)
T: And if people ask me about it I think it’d be great to tell them you called me about it and told me about it before it came out, like, joke’s on you guys, we’re fine
(cut)
T: You guys wanna call this a feud, you wanna call it throwing shade, but right after the song comes out I’ll be on the Grammy red carpet, and if someone asks me about it, I’ll be like, “He called me”–
(cut)
T: You’re so outspoken, “Yeah, she does, it made her famous”, yeah it’s more provocative, (inaudible)
(cut)
T: It doesn’t matter to me. There’s not one that hurts my feelings and one that doesn’t.
