IPad Battery life living up to hype so far
Been using this thing for about 3-4 hours straight, including painting, downloading and watching videos, surfing and blogging. That would have tapped out my iPhone awhile ago. iPad is still at 65% power.

iPhone sized apps on iPad
Most of my apps running in what, for lack of a better word, I'll call "iPhone emulation mode". The app appears centered on the iPad screen in an iPhone-sized window. That includes the keyboard (rather than the larger keyboard you get with iPad-optimized apps). There is a control to scale up to full size, but that display mode is kind of blurry and pixilated. Will be interesting to see how quickly all these apps optimize for the larger device.

Ceramic Mug
Brushes on iPad
My first one on the iPad! Brushes app optimized for the iPad is awesome, especially the pop-up palettes instead of full-screen takeovers. Well worth the price (close to double the iPhone version, but still a steal at $10).

iPad weight will be a factor in eReader wars
Won't be getting rid of my Kindle just yet. IPad is definitely too heavy too hold off lap or table for any length of time.

Woohoo!!!
Got my iPad! Pretty wild customer experience at the store. When they opened the doors, all staff were lined up the full length of the store, in two rows, cheering us as we walked in like teams taking the field at the Super Bowl. Both cool and embarassing. :)

The thicket of signage found on this midtown traffic pole seemed to me a miniature of the city's excitement and barely contained creative chaos.

The makers of the Inspire painting app recently held a painting contest on the theme of “Humanoid vs. Nature”. I didn’t win :(, but my painting was included in an app that showcases the best entries! iPhone users can click this post’s title, above, to go to the app in the app store. And see the post below for my entry.

Jorge Colombo Strikes Again
The cover illustrations of the New Yorker have made the national news now and then, such as the "Politics of Fear" cover during the 2008 presidential election (http://huff.to/194iFS). But last May, the cover made news for reasons that had less to do with its subject, than how artist Jorge Colombo made the art -- on his iPhone with Brushes.
Colombo's art has been on the cover several times since then, most recently with this painting of the Empire Diner. For touch screen artists, it's a good thing that this is no longer a "newsworthy" event. It means art directors, editors, curators and other "gatekeepers" will judge your work on its merits, not it's novelty value.
Watch a stroke by stroke video of Colombo making this cover here:
