So, since I’m a chronic Audio Drama Sunday forgetter, I’ve decided I simply cannot wait until Sunday to talk about @killjamxxx, because I’ll forget and that would be criminal.

I started listening last night and have almost caught up, and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with this beautifully insane show. At every level of production, these are storytellers that UNDERSTAND camp comedy!! They get it in a way I’ve not seen in many shows besides my beloved Gay Future and Starship Q Star. The music and over-the-top sound effects do such a great job of capturing the campy, fun violence of WWE in an audio medium, and the writing and voice acting always does a great job of knowing exactly when to ham it up and bring it back to earth.

I also LOVE that it’s not afraid to hit emotional beats, still keeping the humour without losing the emotion. Without spoiling anything, the line ‘then get your ass up and try the view from there’ is about to become a tool in my mental health arsenal. (Which is wild considering that same episode also includes the line ‘Like getting nailed to a cross isn’t in the top ten of my sexual bucket list’ and a scene that I can only describe as ‘if the girls from Yellowjackets played a really high-stakes game of got your nose’)

And it’s a small thing but I adore the way the credits are set up. Especially in the first episode where you dive headfirst into the wonderful chaos, having brief character descriptions in the shownote credits helped me to keep track of who’s who. It’s also in keeping with the tone of the show, and the silly little one-line summaries really help to inform the characters for me.

Anyway I’m having a great time, this show is if you took WWE’s attitude era, filled it with queer women, encased it all in neon-pink metal, and launched it into the future. It’s DEEPLY enjoyable
