It’s easy for us to doubt and think things are impossible. But with God, nothing is impossible. He can do so much more than we can think or imagine. Let’s not let our limited perspective hold us back, we serve a mighty God! So no matter what you’re dealing with tonight, no matter the obstacle or hindrance, look to the One who can help you. Don’t worry when you can pray instead. Love you guys! Tag someone for me and share this! -Ryan (@ryan.maher)

Bible Fun Facts: Marriage
So I was wondering what the Bible had to say about marriage and/or being single, and I really love these two verses in particular:
“So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does better. In my judgement, she is happier if she stays as she is -- and I think that I too have the Spirit of God.”
(1 Corinthians 7:38, 40 NIV)
This just goes to show that marriage is a beautiful commitment and there’s nothing wrong with desiring that kind of a deep relationship with another person. BUT if you would prefer to be single your whole life that’s also a beautiful commitment to undertake and you shouldn’t feel ashamed for wanting to do so, it’s actually the better route for some of us!
It really comes down to preference and what it is you want for your life, so don’t feel pressured to marry if it’s not what you really want.
I also love this verse:
“The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife.”
(1 Corinthians 7:3-4 NIV)
This. This. I feel like people don’t acknowledge what the Bible actually teaches because they see it as “old fashioned”, but when you read verses like this you realize that it’s actually so much farther ahead than any of us are -- even in the modern day. This verse calls for there to be equality in marriage. Not the husband having more authority, and not the wife having more authority. Rather, they yield to each other as equals, first seeking to please and understand the other before themselves.
The Bible is saying that marriage is a mutual, self-sacrificial expression of love for your partner.
If you don’t already read the Bible, I highly recommend it! Even if you’re agnostic or atheist, it has very good insight and wisdom on how to carry yourself as a loving person. I’d recommend starting with the New Testament books as the Old Testament books are meant for establishing a history and are used as a reference to enhance the message of the New Testament.
Don’t give up on it if it challenges you! It is dense literature that takes a lot of time to understand, so do your best to find what it’s really trying to say.
I’ll be tackling some more confusing and/of misunderstood messages in the Bible in the future. God bless and see you soon!
