Experimenting with anatomy of humanoid animals
Following the overgrowth anatomy and character building work, as well as practicing inked out shading. Was a good exercise for experimenting with anatomy and lighting.

How to play ideas.
2 player game,
Movement phase of two turns (roll a d6 for each unit to find how far you can travel in order to set up your defense/attack)
Combat phase, movement is limited to 4 panels unless the unit states otherwise,
Melee need to be within 1 panel range to damage target
Ranged need to be within 6 panels to damage target (unless unit specifies otherwise)
Units have different dice to roll to do dmg, daggers roll 2 d4s and adds the results up as damage from each dagger.

Overgrowth
Overgrowth is a game I haven't heard from in a long time, last I heard it was in early access in 2011 with a very advanced combat engine in a sandbox state. I've found their website for their character design process

Some gameplay of it's ambitious fight and ragdoll physics

Magic the Gathering
Magic the gathering is a card game centred around building decks of different tropes, types, and colours. Rat decks are a thing and are known to be annoying to play against, here are some cool rat cards I've found. I love how the rat below has a leaf for a cape, and how the angle of the wolf makes it feel like a dark soul boss, tall and foreboding.
magic recently released bloom borrow which is centred around small animals and rodents.

The doldrums
We ran into a few problems with the Doldrums as a group project, my partner made tangible models with super sculpy, but the week before the start he broke his hand. As consequence he was hindered in model making. There were also some issues on my part with keeping up, as I found myself facing stress and burnout in other areas of my life.

Paolo Uccello
An old painting depicting the battle of San Romano, His work lacks a convincing depth to the background, lacking in perspective.
You can tell the understanding of it just quite isn't there with how everything comes across as flat, with no sign of a horizon.

Developing a box for the board game.
Scan of a potential box cover for the mouse game, will work on it later on in photoshop. I
Line art over the scan, depicting a rough outlined for the set up of the background.
Changed the colouring of the armoured rats, the blue was too bright and felt out of place. Decided to go with linear in the end as it just felt like it was missing something without it.

Taking a break from rats to sketch batman after Barry Kitson's visit.
Another break from rats just by sketching my wow character digitally.

Line art of one of the sketches, making a tranquil scene of a rat resting after battle
Some beginnings of flats, I decided to move away from this piece as it wasn't what my partner was looking for in terms of the box cover.

Barry Kitson
I had the pleasure of meeting Barry Kitson in person, as well as browse his portfolio and see some of his creative processes.
He's worked for Marvel and DC for a number of years and has starting experimenting with painting.
He had very useful insight in the comics industry and brought in some work which demonstrated the professional process, talking about working with others in industry in various roles, (some comics had him only as the sketcher, someone else as the inker, and someone else as the painter. For others he did all three). He also spoke about AI and the implications of it going forward.

Jack Teagle has a method of working that lends itself nicely to childlike and innocent animations, reminding me of short shows from children programs.
