This is my latest make actually made for myself, I used a FREE pattern called the “spotting clouds top” by Christina Hadderingh from the blog A spoonful of yarn. It is made from the gorgeous Scheepjes Whirl yarn, in fact I used 2 of these beauties one in Lavenderlicious and one in Turkish Delight, for those who don’t know this yarn it is a smooth, almost silky cotton (60%) & acrylic (40%) yarn which is heaven to crochet with, it comes in yarn cakes of 1000m, delicious gradient colour changing loveliness in all sorts of combinations, enough to suit any taste. I did change it slightly to suit what I wanted personally but it is a great free pattern – very easy to follow and has a very cleaver all in one construction which I loved. The original pattern calls for the top clouds section to be made in Scheepjes catona, another cotton yarn and the rest of the top in a a single Scheepjes whirl using a white and blue colour scheme to represent clouds and sky. I wanted to use some other favourite colours of mine which remind me of the sunset clouds and sky by the sea where I live, so I used a combination of the colour whirls mentioned above rather than catona and a whirl. I also added some extra rows around the bust area, hem and the sleeves to make the top a little longer as I am very tall the pattern comes in small to very large dress sizes and I found it very true to the size I usually wear, I just needed a little more in length, which is a common problem I have with most clothes. The finished item which I have worn already and just love- just right for the slightly cooler temperatures we have now in the uk, I wear a thin cotton white vest underneath.
