pepper angles forward, arms folded loosely over her chest.  “about you?  regularly. but this assertion was based off of my own observations and theories.”  they worry about him.  she doesn’t need to say it.  but even when it’s not her job to worry anymore,  she still worries.  happy operates on a similar principle.  “i could probably fit you into my schedule.”

she reaches out when she’s close enough,  passes a gentle hand over his head  –––  stray hair,  pushed back into place.  a force of habit she’s never managed to kick.  the look on her face remains stupidly soft.    “did none of those fancy degrees teach you that people need water and sunlight to survive?”
