POI Rewatch - S1 E16 - “Risk”

You know the drill. I watch POI for the first time after exploding my way out of the fandom mid season three. What’s that? Do I have a posting schedule? HAHAHA. What?

What I remember from watching this for the first time, yonder years ago:

Oh heyyyy this one! I don’t remember the details, only that some poor schmuck gets neck deep in money business? And possibly was macking on his boss who gets fridged?? Details. I’m pretty sure I felt sorry for this guy, but that this might have also been the episode where Finch makes Reese a custom suit *coughs* so the plot is immaterial. ;P

Oro Liveblogs The Thing:

OH YEAH. I WAS RIGHT. Hello suit porn. Just… keep kneeling there, Finch. At John’s feet, adjusting his hems. “The cuff should *shiver* oh the shoe, not break.” Because Reese has to look good; he’s going to Wall Street.

(But let’s be real. Finch was dyyyying to put Reese in a bespoke suit. And to do it himself. And let’s also be honest, Reese is not complaining at all, despite the fact that he’s essentially playing the part of a Ken doll.)

“John Rooney. Assets.” AWW YEAH YOU HAVE ASSETS. Assets that are now perfectly held in premium wool.

Oh. Plot? I’m supposed to talk about that? Adam Sanders is the number, a Wall street fella, something something money. Likes a rush. Drives a fast car. Boinks his lady boss. “Ever play Russian Roulette? Want to get in the game, gotta spin the cylinder.” Spoken like a well adjusted young white male. I mean *coughs.* However as the episode unfolds, that image gets slowly peeled away. (~He’s just a poor boy, from a poor family~)

Meanwhile, Finch picks up Carter in a Taxi cab. One that he’s driving. I’m 90% pleased Finch gets to be out and about, pushing buttons on his own plots and machinations. And 10% rolling my eyes. Oh Finch.

SEC investigation time! (Sorry– I’ll never not be able to see this guy as Wolf from the 10th Kingdom.) As Reese follows Sanders, we meet his guardian/father figure, and we learn about a skeevy sounding investment deal. Ah, here we go. Found the plot. Sanders starts to investigate, and booooom shit starts to go down. So what do you do?

Pictured: the logical thing to do when the SEC starts to investigate, your love life and work life are one and the same, and everything’s going to shit. Golphing.

They narrowly escape being dump-trucked by whoever is out to get Sanders (and boy do they have some serious $$$), and I’m preeeeetty sure Reese was peeved someone stole his move. Meanwhile we learn about Sander’s smart money skills as a kid (hoarding money in shoe boxes to pay for night school) and awww, I’m endeared to this kid. He’s a good fella. Still up shit creek and a touch annoying, but a good fella. Speaking of shit creek, he escapes getting thrown off the roof by the skin of his teeth. Bat-Reese to the rescue!

“You’re not an asset manager!” - A possibly concussed Sanders.

“No. But I did save your life.” - A perpetually sarcastic Reese.

Annnnd the lady boss is murdered, made to look like Sanders did it. Because that’s what women are for, kids. We die for plot and feels.

Reese takes Sanders to a homeless camp. The same homeless camp he lived in for four months (the jesus alcoholic months. Hey, it IS Easter.) “The safest I’ve ever been is when I was anonymous.”

In which a semi-recently rich white boys learn humility and what it means not to have shoe boxes of cash sent to him monthly.

Turns out the SEC guy and Sanders’s work buddy are the baddies, and Reese has little-to-know sympathy about Sanders’s ‘I just wanted a fambly’ speech.

The homeless camp gets shot up all to hell, and UNF, I have feelings about how Reese positions himself in front of Joan and looks back at her when it’s over, to make sure she’s okay. Fambly indeed.

Bad guy work buddy tries to make it better, but LOL, Finch has you PLAYED buddy. He’s in his power pose right now. Fingers on keys, mind a click-click-clicking away.

“John Rooney. Assets.” Because introducing yourself after you punch a guy out is totally the normal thing to do, Reese. Good job. 

Meanwhile. Homeless camp cleanup party! And FEELINGS.

“I never said thank you. For looking after me when I needed it.” - John, with FEELINGS EYES.

“Who’s looking after you these days?” - Joan

“Someone new.” - John FEELING EYES INTENSIFY.

Cut to Finch, adjusting his glasses, with some FEELINGS EYES of his own.

And then! Carter! Carter at the end! Sniffing out the Bigger Picture. Because ELIAS. 8D

“HELLO JOHN. IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME.”

The music cues, Carter, Scarface intentionally letting himself be caught on camera… ELIAS PULLING ALL THE STRINGS (AHHHHHHHH~~~~!!!!) IT’S GOOD.
