This rather pretty pigeon, rescued by one of our volunteers, has a nasty case of canker - a potentially fatal disease caused by the protozoan parasite Trichomonas gallinae. The cheese-like deposits formed in the birds throat and around the beak can make feeding hard, if not impossible, leading the poor bird to die of starvation.

Luckily, if caught early enough, it is completely treatable and this pigeon is currently recovering in our quarantine facility. Once fully recovered, it will return to the wild once more.

This curious little hedgehog arrived with a nasty cough! Further examination soon found a heavy burden of lungworm and he was placed onto a course of worming treatment.

Whilst we are still in the first few days of treatment, he is already improving well and it shouldn’t be long before he will be fighting fit once more :)
