Thinking about SCP-8713-B/Ophelia and I firmly believe she is capable of feeling true fondness for individuals, like the researcher who foolishly believed she was capable of being an actual person. Just as she’s capable of feeling genuine irritation and frustration with a pesky patient, such as Kondraki Sr. for obvious reasons. But that doesn’t exactly translate into love

At most her love is pure romanticism and lust. Why? Because she’s incapable of viewing a ‘bigger picture’

SCP-8713-B does not have an endgame, she does not think about what she wants for the rest of her life or the greater good or anything like that-

SCP-8713-B not having an end game and greater good impacts her behaviour in a way that makes it so the Foundation can’t allow her more freedoms because she cannot, either physically mentally or morally allow decisions that seem unconscionable in the short term but are necessary in the long term.

In situations like the one where the birthing mother was abandoned so her husband could finish a testing period on a (yet unclassified) SCP, the moral decision was not the right one for the foundation. The Foundation, for the safety of its workers, needed the safety testing preformed to assess the risk of the new SCP and to them and that researcher that overruled his wife’s wants of being comforted while giving birth. But Ophelia cannot comprehend that because she cannot truly grasp the argument of ‘the greater good,’ as she saw it, that poor woman was suffering for no pressing reason but to the Foundation that woman was unfortunately suffering but it was a necessary evil. (Ultimately though, in that case, Ophelia stopped it and breached containment, kidnapped the researcher and forced him to be present for his daughters birth, but still.)

If you think the SCP Foundation sends Ángela in to talk to intelligent and sentient anomalies, e-class personnel and captured people of interest to use her natural friendliness and warm presence to ‘soften them up’ and make them more willing to disclose secrets and information about themselves... you’re absolutely right and a really good read on how the Foundation works/uses all the resources it has available.

Ángie was a sweet but strange child. She was the kid that would draw pictures and give them to all her teachers, but also the one that would break down into tears if she thought you were being ‘mean’ to her at all. She was also a tattle-tale, telling on her peers if they broke any rules, as she didn’t understand that not all rules are that important and worth telling an adult/teacher. 

For this reason, Ángela was isolated and excluded by her peers and left with very few friends growing up. Of course, she didn’t mind though, her insecure side understood why her classmates wanted nothing to do with her, and her passive side never wanted to kick up a fuss, even though it hurt her. She didn’t let it get to her, though and ignored her loneliness by focusing on her schoolwork. 

Even as a child, Ángela had an odd relationship with death and the dead. From an early age, Ángela’s grandfather engrossed her in the family mortuary business, hoping she would participate in the family business one day. He took pride in showing her everything from the coffins to the prepped (and clothed) bodies and wakes. He showed Ángela death - and while she was initially terrified. The spent in the funeral home achieved its purpose in numbing Ángela to death and soon enough, with enough visits and her grandfather introducing her to everything from the tools used in handling the corpses, to embalmers and on one occasion, in a blazing display of unprofessionalism, to a body itself. 

After that, she became unafraid of death as a subject and a sight and grew to respect the dead in the warped way a child would. Which would translate into her often performing makeshift burials and funerals for the poor dead animals she’d find beside roadways and by her home, which she saw with heartbreak and a misplaced sense of duty. She felt that she needed to give them the last respect of burial because she was the only one willing to do it. Thankfully as she grew, this respect matured with her! Haha

* Outside of the classroom setting, Ángela learned and perfected much of the English language by using imported American television and foreign movies, which is a story in itself, but I’m getting off-topic. Watching so much foreign television and cinema to perfect and build on what she learned from tutors and schooling, Ángela has adopted a cadence and accent when speaking English which is indicative of late 90s American T.V. and movies - in addition to the carried over accent of her mother tongue, Tagalog.

Dr. Gears and Dr. Escamilla are both autistic but on completely separate ends of the spectrum. 

For instance, both the traits they have and the pronouncement of their traits manifest so differently that you would NEVER think they both had the same diagnosis unless you knew otherwise or could draw the connection between some of their peculiarities. (read as a visceral hatred of unprompted touch, dislike of textures, sounds and tastes, pickiness with foods, trouble reading social cues such as sarcasm, dry humour, rhetorical questions, etc.) Or asked them about their diagnosis, cause, despite their many many differences and inability to see each other eye to eye, they are both unabashedly and unashamed to be autistic.

MUNDAY MEME || ACCEPTING 

🚫: Are there blogs you just won’t follow or characters you won’t interact with?

YES AND NO. 

As a whole, I try to keep an open mind towards other blogs and portrayals of characters and avoiding judging or refusing to interact with anyone because of different writing styles, icons and graphics, writing lengths, followed canon, etc.  As I’ve been on the receiving end of a lot of that judgment, I fucking hated the dismissal for things as stupid as an inability to make pretty graphics or, god forbid, writing female characters. I don’t want to perpetuate or continue that same level of toxicity in my interactions. 

But at the same time, I have my limits for what I’m willing to see on my dash and tolerate being a neutral party in; like, blogs who perpetuate racism, ableism or homophobia/transphobia are instantly given that block. I don’t care if you ‘didn’t realize’ or whatever; I’m too old and too tired to play a part in your redemption arc or teach you about the fundamental right and wrongs. Blogs that play some really yucky concepts are also a hard pass for me cause like, while I love horror and horrifying implications, blogs that happily wear the fact that they involve characters who are everything from n*zis to offenders are a HAAAARD PASS. Like, yeah, I get mun =/= muse, but at the same time, if you’re comfortable writing something like that, I’m not comfortable writing with you. 

Also, I’m selective about certain characters I write with, and mun’s I try to befriend cause of some awful experiences in the past. This isn’t to say that these characters are a kiss of death. It’s just that I’ve had a lot of issues with muns in the past who are rude, in some cases creepy, refuse to interact with anyone or anything outside of their ships, etc. So, with this said, I’m VERY apprehensive with muns who play Jack Bright, Simon Glass or Alto Clef. Cause like, I’ve had a lot of bad experience with the muns of those characters being either entirely dismissive to fem, nonbinary or ace characters and only ever choosing to interact with masc characters who they can be shipped with. Or being generally creepy asshats, like, I remember in one server I was in, they deadass threatened to send the resident Clef over to s*xually harass Angela, and this isn’t even mentioning when I played Kondraki for a while. 

Now, this isn’t to say that I won’t interact with these characters or will harshly judge the muns for choosing to play them. It’s just that they’ve had irreversibly bad vibes associated with them, and I’ll be a lot more nervous interacting with them unless I’m cool with the mun beforehand! Haha
