le 11 juin advice: how i study languages on my own | language self-study resources

i learned about a lot of resources i've never heard of from this short video, so if i ever feel stagnant in my process i will definitely look at advice in the future. however i won't take in more information until i've tried the things i haven't yet. this will be an option to influence my language goals once i've met the ones i already have planned out.

i am running out of things to write about from memory and am severely hindered in not being able to speak in past tense lol. so i think i'll use my notes next time to help me like learn and remember how to write in french.

also i'm uncertain if "il y a trois heurs maintenant" is the right way to say "it's 3 o'clock now." i'll check on that later.

hey. so i finished the alphabet lessons depicted here, but i wasn't taught about most of the alphabet, or any of the numbers. so i'm going to complete the alphabet subplot shown in the toolbar @ the bottom of the screen before moving on to descriptions just so i know wat the fuck im doing :)

d'accord. aujourd'hui j'ecris en mon livre de biologie pour le lab. j'ai prendre cette à l'université en août. je suis très excité pour cette mois de ma vie. je veux mange une pizza quand je vais a mon appartement nouveaux. j'adore la pizza et quand je mange on en mon appartement nouveaux, je vais être très content avec ma vie. Ma vie va être facile. j'ai deux mois.

i actually found another app that will work better for me called Quizizz. I started a grammar question set and created 3 questions! I also deleted my english keyboard today!

french challenge le 28 mai: i was thinking about removing my english keyboard so I can be fully immersed in using this azerty french keyboard. i only use it in duo lingo and sometimes by accident. because autocorrect knows by now i sometimes speak in french it leaves my text alone even when i'm typing in french from my english keyboard. and it does the opposite, as i'm typing in english right now on my french keyboard autocorrect is allowing my words to remain in english. of course i'm saying all this because wen i first started practicing french on this phone my autocorrect always highlighted and attempted to change my french words into english words that were spelled similarly. then when i added my french keyboard it kept doing this. sometime between then and now it stopped.

arabic exercise 05/16/22: alright look don't yell at me okay but i do not frankly know how to write dates in arabic because i haven't learned the numbers yet. i just started learning arabic for like a week in december and then i've been learning the alphabet since i graduated college in may. i'll get there.

for now though in addition to learning the alphabet i have learned about 10 words and 2 phrases. for the words to actually stay in my memory i thought "some kind of exercise where i have to a) translate b) spell and c) pronounce the words would really help. then i realized i had to create that exercise. as someone new to learning languages on my own i am grateful im in the age of the internet so duo lingo can be my starting place, but i am aware duo lingo won't help me personally remember everything i learned. rather it will simply expose me to it. nor will it help me extensively practice what i've learned in diverse models like writing in arabic with a pencil for example, or have a long list of exercises i can use to solidify the lessons into memory in the way i need. so in supplementing my own learning, i do plan to branch out and use other resources to practice. i already have an arabic dictionary. i plan to talk to native arabic speakers willing to practice with me online. and i also will be graceful with the amount of time that i know must go into preparing materials that will help me learn. i'm kind of learning to teach myself in an area that has zero impact on my real job, but i know i can gain skills to apply to studying at my job. to conclude, as someone trying to become a polyglot just for fun, the investment i realized i must make is large. and i'm still willing to make it but it makes me appreciate myself a lil more.

french exercise le 27 mai : note to self, do not be afraid of being creative even wen it poses a challenge for yourself. i was making an exercise for the 'le livre de son père' phrase to solidify the translation steps and remember the correct grammar of this sentence. as i was forming other examples of this phrase like "Xavier's teacher is teaching his students" I started thinking dont make this too hard to accomplish, think of easier sentences. and now that i realize i was afraid to challenge myself in a language i do want to progress in, i also understand why that fear is going to prevent much learning from happening. so nO i WONT MAKE THINGS EASY ENOUGH TO SIMPLY REMEMBER WHAT I ALREADY KNOW. I WANNA LEARN
