Mori Kei — straight from the forest 🌲

Mori Kei is a wonderful j-fashion style — it is easily recognised by its loose and flowy dresses, skirts, and pants, multiple layers and earthy colours. People often wear big, chunky knitted scarves, flowers in their hair, rusted golden jewellery and anything with lace as accessories. Here is my article about it!

I talked with a person on discord who told me a lot about this style! I asked her why she enjoys Mori Kei:

“I honestly wear the style because its got flowy silhouettes that are really comfortable and the layers remind me of moths, really pretty ones”

I really agree with this! With the loose clothing and natural tones it really does look like some pretty moths :D

Even though there used to be a few magazines (such as spoon) and brands catering to this style, they closed down together with its popularity loss. It may not be trending or very known anymore, but there are still a certain amount of people who love this style keeping it alive, which I personally am very happy about.

𝓿𝓲𝓼𝓾𝓪𝓵 𝓮𝔁𝓪𝓶𝓹𝓵𝓮𝓼

Because this is a style reminiscent of a forest lifestyle, most clothes are made of natural materials; cotton, wool, leather and linen seem to be quite popular. Mori Kei outfits are composed of mostly neutral shades such as an off-white, brown or beige and earthy green. Even though it is not as common as plain coloured fabric, some patterns like for example polka dots or nature related patterns are also present in some coords. Common hairstyles in Mori Kei are rather loose and flowing, often with a hint of “messiness”. Natural hair colours are most common, seeing as it’s a nature based style; though dyed hair in softer shades of other colours can also be seen.

Related styles

Hama kei, Yama kei, Mori Gyaru and Natural kei are all somehow connected with the Mori kei style. Wether they are closely connected, or more established fashions they do have quite a lot in common and I am definitely considering writing about some of them in the future!
