just a quick historical reminder/fact: during world war ii, the u.s. army played a massive and often overlooked role in the pacific theater. while the marine corps has become the face of the island-hopping campaign in popular media, the reality is that the army not only fielded more troops but carried out broader and deeper operations across the entire region. the army deployed 22 infantry divisions and numerous independent regimental combat teams in the pacific, far outnumbering the six marine divisions that served during the war. though marines earned their place in history with battles like iwo jima, the u.s. army was the primary american ground force in the pacific, fighting in nearly every major campaign, including new guinea, the philippines, burma, and okinawa.
army forces weren’t just backup for the marines, but were out there leading assaults, enduring brutal jungle combat, building and defending airfields, and engaging in long, grinding operations across vast island chains. they staffed field hospitals, ran massive supply chains, and coordinated aerial bombardments and resupply missions alongside the u.s. army air forces, which was still part of the army at the time. in fact, many marine operations depended heavily on the army’s logistical muscle—transportation, ammunition, fuel, food, and medical support were overwhelmingly provided by army personnel and units such as the army service forces and the corps of engineers.
despite their scale and sacrifice, army troops in the pacific seem to remain a bit underappreciated in the shadow of the marine corps' more publicized exploits. and i'm not trying to diminish one branch at all, especially if you know my background, but am just helping others give some long-overdue recognition to the tens of thousands of army soldiers who stormed beaches, hacked through disease-ridden jungles, and died in forgotten corners of the pacific just like their fellow brothers-in-arms of different branches. their service was immense, and their role in winning the war in the pacific deserves every bit as much respect and remembrance as our brave marines.

why does no one talk about the first 5 minutes of Episode 6 - Bastogne where Eugene Roe comes across all the dead Germans and turns back in almost panic? shock? possibly fear?
I feel like that’s a big thing not talked about enough :(

Reasons why I think Ralph Spina deserved more screen time:
1: He and some other medics (including the senior medic, Al Mampre) put Sobel under anaesthesia and performed a fake appendectomy just because he confiscated their belongings.
2: He was found selling condoms on the black market in Switzerland…okay you entrepreneurial king.
3: He was once driving a Mercedes in Aldbourne and was pulled over by colonel Sink, who was driving a bread truck. Sink then proceeded use his rank to take the Mercedes from him, but before he did, Spina casually got a crate of cognac out the back and left.
4: After the war he joined the circus.
5: LOOK AT HIM!!! He’s beautiful!
Anyway, Spina deserved more screen time and deserves Liebgott levels of love, thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
