have   you   seen   poppy   dubois   since   the   storm?   some   say   they   look   like   veerle   dejaeger   but   they’re   twenty   &   go   by   the   maverick.   she   lived   in   halloway   for   one   year   &   they   are   originally   from   antwerp,   belgium.   before   the   town   vanished   they   were   studying   psychology   and   lived   at   the   dorms.   most   people   knew   the   cisfemale   as   erudite  but   i’ve   heard   they   can   also   be   aloof.   for   some   reason,   they   feel   uneasy   about   the   town’s   disappearance.

poppy   is   the   first   and   only   child   to   lotte   dubois   ,   but   the   sixth   child   to   her   father   ,   dirk   .   her   birth   is   out   of   wed-lock   ;   in   fact   ,   it's   outside   the   realm   of   any  form   of   significant   relationship   -   she's   the   result   of   an   elusive   affair   between   a   girl   barely   out   of   her   teen   years   &   her   boss   .   it's   safe   to   say   that   poppy   is   not   ,   and   never   will  be   ,   welcomed   into   her   father's   life   with   open   arms   .   instead   ,   poppy   is   raised   solely   by   her   mother   -   until   her   stepfather   comes   along   when   she's   ten   (   though   step-father   has   never   felt   like   the   right   term   -   he's   just   dad   )   .

although   she   knows   her   parents   love   her   ,   she   feels   like   an   outsider  in   her   own   house   -   especially   when   her   younger   siblings   come   along   ;   a   pair   of   twins   .  

poppy   grows   a   little   distant   ;   she's   always   naturally   been   more   of   a   lone   wolf  .   she   puts   her   all   into   her   work   ;   friendships   coming   second   to   her   determination   for   success   .   she   draws   ,   &   religiously   watches   american   dramas   to   perfect   her   english   .  

when   it   comes   to   university   ,   it   was   always   clear   that   poppy   would   be   venturing   out   into   the   world   -   nobody   had   expected   america  ,   but   that   was   where   she   ended   up   .

she's   a   smart   girl  ;   she   excelled   early   on   &   never   really   stopped  excelling   .   she   doesn't   have   a   complex   around   her   intelligence   ,   per   say   ,   but   she's   confident   in   her   own   abilities   &   what   she   wants   to   get   out   of   life   .   (   or   at   least   what   she   expected   to   get   out   of   life   before   everything   went   to   shit   )   .

as   said   ,   she's   more   of   a   lone   wolf   .   it's   not   that   she's   shy   ,   she's   just   more   of   an   introvert  .   she   does   enjoy   the   company   of   other's   occasionally   ,   of   course   ,   &   is   an   a*   listener   /   shoulder   to   cry   on   .  

i'd   say   she   puts   up   a   little   bit   of   a   front   to   come   across   tougher   than   she   is   .   she's   a   softie   really   &   cares   a   lot   more   than   she   likes   to   admit   .
