Before D&D got its iconic name, Gygax considered naming the game The Fantasy Game. Another suggestion was "Swords and Sorcery," but he eventually settled on Dungeons & Dragons, which was picked after a brainstorming session with his friends.

The word "cliché" originated from the French printing industry, where it described the sound made by a printing plate used repeatedly (Collins, 2013).
