Art and architecture have always been great interests. From a young age drawing and experimenting with different artistic areas became my main form of expression. The habit of keeping artistic diaries and sketchbooks as a hobby made me improve in many ways. However, this is something that has been more important in my life since I entered adolescence: by drawing and writing my thoughts through high school I realized that this also became a very personal way of understanding my own view of things and expressing my day-to-day feelings.
At twelve years old my academic artistic training started. In the beginning learning how to represent anatomic figures helped me understand more about shadowing and perspective. This led me to learn a way to transfer the ideas from my head to paper properly. Not long after this I also started to experiment with watercolour painting and different techniques that were less conventional, and that is when architecture also came along.
The idea of becoming an architect started with the combination of two events. Firstly, by helping design my older brother’s apartment, which taught me a lot about colour, texture and material. Then I downloaded software such as Autodesk and Homestyler when making new designs and projects became a day-to-day activity. The intriguing and undeniable relationship between architecture and art is also one of the main reasons I decided to follow this path: I enjoy the fact that architecture is a mix of art, design and history.
My portfolio shows a lot of my interpretations of art and architecture. There I show works that include watercolours and anatomic drawings, which, as mentioned before, were of extreme importance for my development as an artist. Other projects, such as the ones about Cuban Urbanism and Roman Architecture, were also inspired by the things I have seen and learned, considering that in both places, as far as I could see, architecture is one of the main representations of its people history.
Projects such as the one about Brasilia also mean a lot to me. Brasilia is the Brazilian capital and a city that is world famous for the fact that it was planned by Oscar Niemeyer. This project shows two of the city’s main buildings with its famous map, in the shape of an airplane, as a background. Only after visiting Brasilia was I able to appreciate the scope of this project and the beauty of the city. The last piece of work I would like to talk about is the one entitled Avenida Paulista which I consider to be of the most meaningful ones in there. This project shows a bird´s eye view of the central avenue of Sao Paulo. This place has been the stage for the most important public events and political demonstrations of Brazilian history. This place is where the people come together to celebrate during carnival but also to protest against corruption and poverty, becoming over time the place for the population to be heard.
