woah i don’t think i’ve ever read something before that actually delves into the nuances of the ace spectrum and touches on the specific anxieties and struggles of questioning where if at all you might fall on it like this

Being aroace is either being the most grounded and logical person in any discussion relating to sex or romance or completely forgetting that it's something people do and then getting confused whenever it's brought up.

while I don’t agree with that referring to men in their 30s-early 40s as “old man yaoi”, I UNDERSTAND why many people who primarily consume honest-to-goodness BL manga are quicker to call it that, because there is just such poor representation for men that aren’t hairless dehydrated 20-something twunks. They’re wrong, but I get why it happens.
I also understand that “middle-aged yaoi” isn’t as fun to say as “old man yaoi”, even when it’s more technically accurate.
So I would like to propose new vocabulary: Grown Ass Yaoi. yaoi that’s grown ass men. they’re not old but they’re not young adults either. you get me? Grown Ass Yaoi

If you're comfortable, I'd like to know your thoughts on this quote about sex in horror cause I found it interesting
"The vulnerability that sex requires touches on an inherent fear that lies in all of us and perfectly lends itself to creating terror in narrative form. Sexual desire drives people to do crazy things, sexual anticipation creates anxiety, sex itself spawns change. […] Horror, at its core, is largely about the body – and it’s impossible to tell stories about the body without including sex." —Jade Budowski - Sex & Horror: How Sexuality Shapes The Genre
Well wowwie this is certainly a very allo-centric take if I ever saw one 🙈
On the one hand, I can for sure see how that would work for allosexual people. On the other hand, I definitely don't relate to that kind of stuff as a sex-repulsed asexual. If it comes to sex, the one thing I WILL relate to is the fear of losing a body's agency – y'know, the R-word for lack of a better wording. That's why the symbolic implications of Alien or The Thing terrify me. That's why Rosemary's Baby terrifies me. That's why The Stepford Wives terrifies me. That's why I can relate to Aoba's screams in The End Of Evangelion. THAT part of the nature of sex in horror? Yeah, that's primal and terrifying. Sexual desire, sexual anticipation and the act itself? Yeah nah, I don't see it, with my personal experience.
I do agree that horror being about the body can yield impressive results, and stories about the body can and will include sex a lot of the time, but I think the importance of it is very conflated in this statement. One of my favorite authors, Daniel Pennac, wrote a book called Journal d'un corps (Diary of a body) about everything that happens to his body from childhood to old age. Yes, sex is mentioned, but what my brain fixates on the most is stuff like his body starting to malfunction due to age for random reasons, or the first liver spots appearing on his skin. I talked about The Substance before. While this movie plays for horror the importance that show-biz will give to sex-appeal and how overused sex is in the horror genre (lol), most of the body-related horror comes much more from a fear of aging and your body losing its aesthetic appeal than anything else (and whether people wanna immediately link that to sex or not is debatable, but I won't). My favorite movie, Synecdoche New York, isn't horror per se but is about, for lack of a better description, a man dying, and it touches on everything from body to mind, but obviously has a big emphasis on the body. And yes, while sex is also a part of it on that one (to pretty wholesome effects ultimately, as fucking messy as it is), aging, getting hurt, getting sick, is where the meat of it is where it's at to me – that, and the contemplative transgender exploration the MC finds himself in for most of the last chunk (and that is hinted throughout the movie). I don't know, maybe it's 'cus I'm ace, but the sex is definitely not what I focus on in those stories about the body. And my ace ass definitely thinks it's possible to talk about the body without including sex. Have y'all read The Metamorphosis? (...Well, OK, I'm kinda talking out of my ass on that one 'cus in my case, it's been a hot minute, and I know that even if there weren't any mention of it people would still try to find sexual intent in it 'cus in my experience that's what most of classical literary analysis is most of the time, finding where the sex is, but anyway.)
Also on horror being about the body – in a lot of cases that can be true and incredibly effective, but personally, my favorite genre is psychological horror, and I'd argue talking about the mind, and the vulnerability of the mind, can be even more effective at terrifying a person about the very human nature. The Babadook or that dinner fight scene in Hereditary terrify me more than a lot of things, not because of anything body-related, but because of what it hints about the deeper levels of human nature. And don't get me started with depictions of characters going insane until nothing of their original spirit, what makes them "them", is left. I shiver at the thought. (...Though I'll admit, when that's accompanied with physical change, that's also pretty fucking effective, and we got examples I think all of us know of in or out of horror, looking at you, Simon Petrikov and Fiddleford McGucket. But hey, there we go, that's an example of bringing about horror with the body without mentioning sex.)
tl;dr: nice allo take, very much conflating the sex still, but you do you. I guess it works for most people.

Is it normal for other aces to have "sexual thoughts " like I wonderr how it would be like to do x or y with someone but have no actual desire to actually do so. And also, do other aces have freaky thoughts/more libido when their period is approaching? - A confused ace that feels worthless everytime this shit happens.
hi mod amaranth back at it
yeah that's totally normal. the period thing has a biological basis (something something hormones). asexuals can have and enjoy sex. asexuals can hate sex and never do it. asexuals can do whatever the fuck they want tbh as long as consent is involved.

the tlt fandom loves to talk about the “god loves you but not enough to save you” line from sun bleached flies but i don’t think we talk ENOUGH about the excruciating harrowhark-codedness of this line

this is the harrow who has known the option of destruction since she was three years old. this is the harrow who was taught to recite catechisms as a grounding technique for her schizophrenia. this is the harrow who swore to live forever just in case the girl in the Tomb ever woke up. this is the harrow whose parents were very kind as they tied her noose. this is the harrow who became the leader of her House at ten years old. this is the harrow who threw herself at god’s feet and begged him to bring back gideon nav only for him to say no. this is the harrow who survived dozens of assassination attempts from god’s strongest soldier while god was on his tablet in the other room. this is the harrow who, in the last long, terrible days before the end, began to pray again. not because she had anyone in particular to pray to, but because it just helped, in its own ineffable way.

My feelings and thoughts that happen as someone whose Asexual:
•Having a libido without sexual or physical attraction towards others.
•Distracted during sex.
•Feeling repulsed some days but sex positive other days.
•Feeling a disconnection between myself and other people.
•Assuming everyone prefers a person’s personality and romance while forgetting I’m ace. THEN being confused when people don't.
•Not understanding one night stands at all.
•Not caring about how someone dresses or how they look.
•Discomfort with sexual innuendos some days but other days making the jokes myself.
•A constant back and forth battle of conflicting and contradictory thoughts and emotions.
