You gonna do anything or make any statement about the rampant transmisogyny on this hellsite, especially in cases like predstrogen recently? Or yall gonna stay silent and keep letting/making us get pushed off of it.

I have a number of asks about this, so this is to address all of them, I won't do each individually.

We generally do not comment on individual cases, but because there seems to be mass misinformation around this, I will make an exception and comment on predstrogen.

First, Tumblr has a number of LGBT+ including trans people on staff, and they see things from the inside fully, and they're not protesting this case.

Why do we wrongly have a transphobe reputation? We did have an external contract moderator last year that was making transphobic moderation (and also selling moderation, criminally). As soon as we were aware that person was fired, and we later terminated the entire relationship with that contracting firm and have brought almost everything in-house (at great cost). I have previously commented on this publicly, several times.

I am not aware of any Automattician (people who work at Automattic and Tumblr) who has made any transphobic moderation actions. If it's reported it is investigated immediately, if anything were found that person would be terminated for cause immediately.

In predstrogen's case in addition to some mistagged sexually explicit posts, which on its own wouldn't be that bad, we have documented cases of harassment against other users. Most importantly, and why she is banned from Tumblr for life, is she made threats of violence against Tumblr staff.

That is never okay. Threats of violence is not protected speech. We will work with police and FBI where appropriate. I just got a death threat yesterday from someone mad about predstrogen, and that account was immediately terminated.

So regardless of whether you still think Tumblr staff is somehow a bunch of transphobes, know that threats of violence or death are still not acceptable and will result in immediate and serious action. Know that when you rile people up, they can do dumb things with possibly permanent consequences.

(2 hours later update: I have changed instances of the pronoun "they" or "their" to "the account" because I am unaware of pronoun preference in this instance and don't want to misgender anyone. Thank you for the people who reported this as an issue. Update 2: "She" is apparently better, the post now says that. Sorry for the mistake.)

Here's one (of many!) examples of the harassment violations, this one targets me but there are others targeting other users on the site.

The second part seems to indicate she wanted to be suspended, I'm unaware of why, perhaps to create this sort of uproar.

This is what I mean when I said prepare for a second Trump administration. The Republican party is fascist, and the Democratic party is thus - by default - everybody else. It cannot please everyone, because it is now effectively composed of no more unifying factor than "everyone who isn't immediately seeking an end to the current system of American governance via military-backed dictatorship."

It's not sustainable. The Democrats realistically need to be about three parties, but that's not possible as long as the Republicans exist and first-past-the-post voting exists, so there is a very real and present chance that these actions driven by the right wing of the Democratic party (which would be a far right party in most other "Western" political systems) will drive off or demoralize the American left enough that the fascist right once more takes power.

That's not an improvement. That's accelerationism, and will simply result in a higher body-count among the oppressed. But I'm not here to tell you that you need to vote for the Democrats, because that isn't a realistic approach. People who take moral or ethical positions on political decisions cannot be shamed into changing them, because it's a moral stance and thus a personal one - otherwise you could shame Republicans into not voting Republican, and we've all seen how well THAT works.

No, my point is that you need to PREPARE. Because the amount of people I've seen stating that they cannot or will not vote for Biden in the next election represents a realistic threat that Trump will win again, and you need to have your emergency measures in place before he takes office. You need to have a community in place in your area for safety and community support, as the Republicans are openly stating they intend to invoke the Insurrection Act on day one to seize control of the nation via military force.

There is going to be significant disruption in day-to-day life. If you've never done so, read up on how nations in the global south (such as Argentina) have dealt with repeated upheavals due to internationally-generated crises of governance and violence. You will need this information, and you will need to put it into practice.

I am not kidding when I say start preparing now. You do not want to have to try and figure out how to ad-hoc assemble resistance to a state that wants you dead in the moment it is needed. Moreover, it will benefit you now. Do you want to help stop what is happening in Palestine? Do you want to support marginalized and targeted indigenous people? People who the system wants dead RIGHT NOW? Then your group, built to save you if needed, can also help save them as soon as it's running.

Organize. Plan. Practice now, when you won't (necessarily) get arrested for seed-bombing fruiting plants in empty commercial spaces or setting up mutual aid societies. The right is currently aiming to prosecute mutual aid under the RICO act, but depending on where you're operating and what the material results are you can probably get away with organization right now. Especially if you're higher up in the levels of privilege. Just keep in mind, when the fascists feel secure in their power access to the benefits of privilege become MUCH harder to manage. That's why I say do it NOW, before Homeland Security goons are sent out to bag people again.

This is going to shock many Democrats, but shitty policies don’t win you young voters, and all the whining and foot stamping in the world isn’t a substitute for policies that address the class war.

If they want young people votes, they should consider doing things that benefit young people.

Hey Everybody, you need to get ready.

I've seen a LOT of posts floating around left-leaning spaces lately about "I'm not voting for Biden next year." And... I get it. I'm not going to even attempt to argue over strategic voting or whatever, because it rings hollow and it's pointless - there are a LOT of people saying this, and whatever reach this tiny scream into the void may have it won't shift those numbers.

So I'm going to be straight - get ready for a second Trump administration. It's obvious that he's going to be the Republican nominee in 2024, and the literal only determiner of whether the Republicans win is Democratic voting turn-out. Biden won because Trump was awful, but Trump won in the first place because people didn't vote for Hillary. That's looking like it's going to repeat itself.

I'm not saying this to shame anybody - you don't want to vote for someone complicit in genocide, I get it. But there isn't going to be a leftist alternative that wins the 2024 American election. There isn't one even running in the major two parties that the system is designed to accommodate.

I'm saying this because you need to get ready now. All that online leftist talk about community self-support, community policing, organizing with like-minded people? If you're just talking about it, you need to stop talking and put it into actions. As soon as you can. BEFORE TRUMP TAKES OFFICE AGAIN. You may not have the MEANS to organize afterwards. The major platforms online are all held by right-wingers who imagine themselves American oligarchs. They WILL turn over your identities upon request by a Trump administration. Even this one.

The Republicans have gone mask-off fascist since 2016, and they weren't meaningfully punished. Project 2025 is a direct, published by conservatives statement that they plan to end democracy and install direct autocratic rule. Even if they don't succeed at that, expect Texas and Florida to be the model of the federal government with targeted persecution of oppressed classes as a direct, OVERT point of policy. Expect direct, OVERT support for genocide of "undesirable" populations in the global south, Palestine, and pretty much everywhere else - including in 'Western' nations. Expect the defunding, privatization, and asset-stripping of all government funded social-support networks. Expect an exponential increase in violence across all right-wing political apparatuses, from the informal (militias and organized hate groups) to the local (police) to the national (military). However bad Trump was through 2020, keep in mind that he's going to be on a revenge tour and will - one way or the other - never have to be worried about getting reelected again. I mean this clearly and with as much seriousness as I can convey: people are going to DIE. People are going to be KILLED.

If you're in the United States, you need to organize resistance NOW. Whatever you're doing in support of Palestine, whoever you're talking to, whatever you're doing to build a community to protest or slow the progress of the decimation of Gaza - you need to keep it going, and prepare to need to apply those same techniques to protect indigenous/oppressed people in the United States in just over a year. Because the left looks like it isn't going to vote for Biden again, but the right is sure as shit going to vote for Trump again. And the United States, as it is today, will not survive another Trump presidency intact. You need to prepare for it like you would a natural disaster. You need to prepare for it like you would an army you know is marching in your direction.

Most people are going to pull a 1930s Germany and hunker down, comply with the demands for brutality, and hope to make it through. That means they will not act to save you, or anyone else, out of fear of being targeted. If you expect to survive without doing so, you're going to have to organize a critical mass of resistance EARLY so that you aren't relying on people to spontaneously organize while staring gun barrels in the face. The 2020 George Floyd BLM protests only happened because people had time due to the COVID shut-downs and the military officials refused Trump's orders to deploy on American soil to "bust heads." The Republican party is currently trying to hold up as many military promotions as possible so that the next Republican president gets to fill them all, to prevent a repeat of that scenario. They LEARNED from that, and will act to keep it from happening again in that way. They're going after mutual aid groups using RICO right now.

I'm serious. Get ready. Start getting ready now. If you don't wind up needing it, it will still help you to have a local organization for support. I hope that you will not need to rely upon this to save your life or the lives of those near you. But I expect this will be necessary.
