Vulcan Calligraphy is beautiful, and would make a great tattoo! There’s even a (fan)official translation so you can have your Vulcan calligraphy say whatever you want!

Can you read Vulcan characters? I ask because I always see them in your art, and I've been rewatching Enterprise and I noticed all the Vulcans in the high command wear robes with Vulcan words on them. I was wondering what the words say? Is it their names?? help me sleepy-wan kenobi you are my only hope

I do a kind of cop out version of writing Vulcan script, really. 

It took a little while to understand the website that tells you how to write, but all the info you need is here this shows you how to write in vulcan, but it doesn’t translate from english to vulcan. It’s letter to letter type stuff, but vulcan has more letters so there are composites and so on, you just gotta pay attention and double check down the line, cos if you have a word with spro in it, you could use all four characters for s, p, r, and o, but there is a spro composite character. There’s also spo, sro,stro, there’s a tonne. 

For a translator, there’s this beauty that you just plug in the words you want. However, I’m aware that vulcan has some sentence structure differences, so you can’t just do a word for word translations to write in vulcan. I can’t do that bit, I’ve never looked into it. So when I write in vulcan, i either bluff the sentence structure or i keep it to one or two free floating words. 

As for translating backwards, I’m sure i could manage it but it’d take me a while. I don’t actually know how many characters there are in vulcan, but I’d say its closer to 100 and they’re all fucking spirals and circles

Then there’s the punctuation. There’s ways to indicate if a sentence continues on the next line or if it’s a full stop, there are commas (which i use as apostrophes too cos i dont know how to do apostrophes. i really dont do vulcan script as well as people think) and tehre are dashes. There are a lot of dashes in vulcan, and i love them. They’re the curly lines running around and through the verticle text, they start at the top of the word, cut through the middle where the dash is, then end at the last letter. Gotta love them.

Anyway! If you want to translate what’s on a robe, go to the first site and spot every letter and translate them, then you’d have some weird letters that make up words and you’d translate them w the dictionary i linked above.

If the word isn’t in calligraphy (i think there are three types of writing for vulcans) the first website has a tab near the top that lets you pick calligraphy, standard, and writing.
